Riverview is a small town in the Cheboygan County of Michigan. It is located on the east side of the Kawkawanna River, about 12 miles northeast of Grand Rapids, and about 10 miles southeast of Battle Creek. The population was 1,611 at the 2000 census. The name "Riverview" comes from two sources: One source says that it was derived from a Comanche word meaning "the blue river," while another source says that it was derived from a Shawnee word meaning "peaceful place." The post office operated in Riverview for just over one year before it closed on December 15, 1901. According to local legend, early settlers in what is now Riverview discovered oil reserves near present-day Battle Creek and decided to set up shop there. By 1892, oil production had reached such levels that Fort Pitt Oil Company purchased land aroundpresent-day Battle Creek and established an refinery there. In 1904, the company merged with Eastern Refining Company to become Eastern General Refining Corporation (EGR). In 1912, EGR merged with American Petroleum Company to form PennZoil Corporation (later ExxonMobil). In 1938 PennZoil merged with Standard Oil of California to become Exxon Mobil Corporation. At its peak in 1978, Exxon Mobil employed over 100,000 people across 141 countries worldwide including 612 employees in Michigan.

The town's extensive infrastructure includes a public works department, three schools, two churches, two bars/restaurants, a post office, fire department and more than 20 businesses including several manufacturing companies that use riverfront land for production purposes.
Riverview is a neighborhood in the city of Detroit, Michigan. The name comes from the river that runs through it, the Rouge. The area was first settled by French-Canadian families in the late 18th century. In 1855, several hundred settlers from what is now Ottawa County moved to Riverview and began to erect churches and schools. By 1870, the community had grown sufficiently large for a village to be established, but it never grew very large and eventually dissolved in 1900.
