The Riverview Rifle and Pistol Club was founded on February 17, 1892. It is one of the oldest rifle and pistol clubs in the area. The club has been meeting monthly since its founding. In 1916, the club purchased a rifle from a soldier who had served in World War I. The club continued to meet monthly until it disbanded in 1945 due to lack of members.

Riverview is a small town in the northwestern corner of Michigan. It is located on the right bank of the River Raisin, about 12 miles northeast of Ionia and 10 miles west of Battle Creek. The population was 521 at the 2010 census. The first European to visit Riverview was Nicholas Coren, who came overland from Detroit in 1804. He named it for his home river, the Raisin. For many years, Riverview was known only as a stop on the stagecoach route between Battle Creek and Ionia. In 1822, John Purdy built a sawmill on the east side of the Raisin and started producing lumber. By 1830, all but one of Purdy's mills had closed; however, he reopened two of them and continued to produce lumber until his death in 1868. After Purdy's death, his son Anthony ran one of his mills until it ceased operations in 1915. In 1855, Jno Mather purchased land along the banks of the Raisin from Nicholas Coren for $2 per acre (or $10 per hectare). Mather began developing this land into what is now Riverview Township by planting corn and wheat crops and building homes with logs that he cut down himself or bought from others in the area. By 1860, Mather had erected an addition to his house which became known as "The Gables" after him. The township name changed to Riverview Township when it was organized under Michigan law on December 14, 1865. On September 21, 1907*, just four days after prohibition officers raided a speakeasy called The Rainbow near Mackinac Island* (*This event is often incorrectly cited as being October 1st due to rounding errors), several people were arrested at The Rainbow: George Wirtz (), Harry Smith (), Walter Laumann ()and Edward Everett Kelleher (). All were charged with unlawful possession of liquor *(which at that time meant any container larger than 3/8th ounce). This event helped start what would become known asthe "Mackinac imbroglio". After Prohibition ended in 1933*, most businesses within Riverview Township shuttered their doors or converted to other forms of business operation such as retail stores or restaurants*. However exceptions were made for a few remaining businesses such as Mr.'s Pharmacy which continued to serve groceries until 1984*. Restaurants that operated during Prohibition generally served hard-to-find items like bootlegged moonshine which became more common during later periods when prohibition was repealed* (*See also: List Of Liquor Laws In Michigan).

The Riverview area of Michigan was settled in the early 1800s by Europeans. The first European to set foot in what is now Riverview Township was Nicholas Vail, who arrived in 1802. He built a cabin on the east side of the river and named it Vail Manor. By 1807, other Europeans had also moved into the township, including John Workman and his brother-in-law, James Halliday. In 1812, both Workman and Halliday were killed when their wagon became lost in a snowstorm near what is now Piquetteville. The township's first school was built at what is now Mount Pleasant in 1814. In 1836, the village of Lockport was founded in northwestern Riverview Township by fur traders George Canning and Benjamin Clough. Canning bought land from local farmers and laid out a town around his trading post at Lockport Lake. The town rapidly grew over time, becoming an important center for trade on the lower MI rivers during the 1840s and 1850s. During this time, several mills were built along the riverbank near Lockport Village (including one that still stands today). The town was renamed Lockport after Captain Augustus Dennylock of British Rear Admiral Lord Byron's flagship HMS Beagle when it became known as "Lockport" following its incorporation into Macomb County in 1848. However, most residents continued to refer to it as "Riverview." In 1870, Lockport Temperance Union meeting hall burned down; although no one was hurt inside, arsonists responsible for this attack were later convicted and sentenced to hard labor for eight years at Fort Recovery State Penitentiary in Detroit. In 1898 about 20% of all acres within Macomb County belonged to Riverfront Township; however due to factors such as population growth (and consequent federal funding which helped support infrastructure improvements), much of these lands were eventually sold off or leased back to individual families or businesses over time. As a result of this situation – which has been continuing ever since – many homes that once stood within Riverview Township are now located within adjacent jurisdictions such as Grand Haven orWarren Parklands..
