Royal Oak, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 33,161 at the 2010 census. The area that would later become Royal Oak was first settled by French traders in 1796. In 1814, it became a county seat of Kent County and was known as "TheVillage". By 1840, most of what would become Royal Oak had been annexed by Jackson Township in Kalamazoo County. In 1847, it became a town under the name "Oak Hill" and remained so until 1868 when it changed to its current name because of an act of the Territorial Legislature which named Ann Arbor as the new county seat for newly organized Oakland Township. In 1873, Royal Oak saw its first oil well blow out and producible gas be discovered on land now occupied by Eastern Market shopping center; this event helped spur investment in oil production within thecity limits In 1907-1908 (the same year that Royal Oak hosted one of America's first auto shows), Detroit's Corktown district experienced significant growth due to new automobile production being centered there; much like today’s Corktown neighborhood in Detroit’s downtown corehandlebars from Dearborn Street south to Woodward Avenue east along Second Street towards Gratiot Avenue north Detroiters were quick to take up their new city hall just off John F Kennedy Boulevard near Mott Haven Road where they had built two blocks away on Romanesque Revival style buildings originally erected for Holy Cross Seminary with plans to use them as teaching hospitals during WW1 but never did In 1908 downtown Detroit also saw construction begin on One Ford Center with major features including a 500 foot long perforated tunnel connecting lots across Greenfield Avenue leading directly into Wayne State University (now Wayne State University–Detroit) then overlooking river frontage just east side of Woodward Avenue

Royal Oak is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, population 298,541 as of 2019. It is the largest city in Midwestern Michigan and the second-largest city in Michigan after Detroit. The name "Royal Oak" first appeared on a map dated 1827, and was given to it by General Anthony Wayne during the American Revolution as a tribute to then-British Crown Prince George II of Great Britain. Royal Oak grew rapidly during the 19th century because of its position on the main line between Canada and America, and became one of the leading industrial cities in North America. In addition to being an important center for business, trade, education and research, Royal Oak has also been home to many famous people including Ford Motor Company CEO Henry Ford and rock musician Jimi Hendrix. The current mayor is Brenda Lawrence with a term beginning on July 1, 2021. The history of Royal Oak began with early settlers from England who arrived around 1789 along what is now US Highway 11/Mile Marker 97B (now M-11). They named their land Post Road Township after Sir John Mackenzie who had founded Fort Mackenzie near present day Toronto in 1795 when he joined forces with General James Wolfe against Chief Pontiac’s Red Men Indian Confederacy. The first recorded settler was Nicholas Allingham who arrived in 1802 from Wigan England with his family under Captains Hunter & Allingham[1]. Soon other families followed suit until there were over 100 people living in Post Road Township by 1810[2]. One of the most significant events that took place within Post Road Township occurred when General Anthony Wayne's forces invaded Canada during the American Revolution on October 25th, 1812 while under command of Major James Kpylarzewski[3]. After defeating Chief Pontiac's Native Americans at Battle Horseshoe Bend near present day Detroit, General Wayne released all British prisoners including his own brother Richard Butler whom he had brought over as part of this invasion[4]. As part of this victory, General Wayne also received a Province wide pardon for any crimes he may have committed while serving in Canada[5], which gave him enormous power within America at this time.[6] After helping lead American forces into battle against British forces at Yorktown Heights later that year,[7] Wayne returned back to post outside Ottawa where he began planning future campaigns across North America which would culminate with his successful expedition against Mexico known as The War Of 1812[8]. After successfully concluding this campaign - resulting in major battlefield victories such as Bad Axe Creek,[9] Tecumseh River Bridge,[10] and Battle Of Pembina – Wayne was elected President pro tempore (the first African American)of the United States Senate for reconstruction following Washington's defeat at Appomattox Court House four months later on April 9th1814[11][12][13]). Following his election as president pro temporewayne delegates traveled down river to meet him at Plymouth Rock where they ratified his proclamation naming RoyalOak Cityship within Ironton County Limits effective February 1st1815[] according to original plat map prepared by David Aitken []". This monumental event marked an watershed moment for RoyalOak Cityship because it signified that area eastward from US 11/Mile Marker 97B (now M-11) belonged exclusively to Michigan rather than being divided among several other counties within Ohio[]".[14][15][16] This exclusive status lasted until May 30th1917 when Ohioans voted 3–2 notto annex RoyalOak Cityship into their state due largely to concerns about its economic stability despite having more residents than either Detroit or Flint combined[]".[17][18][19][/size][/b][/ul][/li][/ul>
Royal Oak, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Oakland County. The population was 82,829 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Oakland County after Royal Oak and Auburn Hills. The area that would become Royal Oak was originally part of Lapeer Township, which was organized in 1814. The first settler in what would become Royal Oak was John Dearborn, who arrived on July 4, 1837. Dearborn built a log cabin near where he lived on Detroit's east side. Royal Oak began to develop as an agricultural town during the 1840s and 1850s due to its location on River Rouge between Muskegon Heights to the south and Midland to the north. By 1860, about 10% of RoyalOak's population were engaged in agriculture; this number increased to 50% by 1870 due to new railroad lines coming through the town. In 1865, RoyalOak became one of three towns within Detroit Township when that township was created from parts of four other municipalities: Romanville (then called Holland), Brighton Park (then called Northfield), Grosse Pointe Woods (now Southeast Detroit), and West Bloomfield (now Ferndale). In 1872, King George V granted land surrounding present-day RoyalOak for incorporation into what would become Oakland County as part of his executive order establishing counties throughout Michigan. On November 6th of that year, residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of incorporation with a population increase estimated at 35%, making it one of only two cities in America then with over 1000000 people – along with Chicago – not yet incorporated into a county government entity! For many years thereafter until 1967 when Oakland County merged with Washtenaw County to form MIddle Michigan – Kings Park remained as both City Limits & Borough Representative for all but 1/4 mile inside our municipal limits! In 1907, construction began on Pontiac Avenue which connected downtown RoyalOak with Pontiac village just outside its borders via road running parallel to now Woodward Avenue & I-696; this Important artery helped spur growth around current day Pontiac Campus & beyond downtown until recently when Interstate 90 severed much arterial traffic from this once vibrant community center !! Our very own Grandma used to say “If you want something done Hardly anyone will do it But if you ask nicely they might’ve gotten there before you did” so she never hesitated asking us nicely for favors….. even though we always said no thank you…… she had great grace under pressure 🙂 The following year saw further growth when local investors purchased property parcels adjoining Woodward Avenue between Gratiot Boulevard & Cass Corridor becoming known as "The Strip" developmentally still home today To sections including Mt Carmel Casino Resort located just east off I-696 next door
