St. Clair Shores, Michigan is a town in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 12,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit Metropolitan Area. The first Europeans to reach what is now St. Clair Shores were French traders and missionaries who arrived in 1796. The area was originally known as "Quesnel" after Jean-Baptiste Quesnel, a Canadian fur trader who had been sent by the British to explore this region in 1792-93. In 1814, when the U.S. acquiredMichigan from France, it included all of what is now Wayne County and parts of Ottawa and Muskegon counties including St. Clair Shores itself on its east bank just south of the Huron River where it empties into Lake Huron (now part of Kalamazoo). In 1831 local merchant Isaac Aschmann platted a town site on land he had bought from the Kickapoo Indians for $1 per acre ($40 per sq ft). Aschmann named his town "Aschmann's Mills", but it was renamed "St.-Clair-Shores" by Act No., 3d Session Laws of Michiana (1865), when that name became official under state law following its incorporation as a village within the city limits of Detroit on October 1, 1865.(2) The village adopted its present name with reference to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel Sherlock Holmes (1887), which takes place in Victorian London and features many scenes set in or around St.-Clair-Shore.(3) In 1881 there were only 11 people living in Aschmann's Mills; by 1906 there were over 2200 people living here according to US Census reports.(4) During World War II many factories located near Aschmann's Mills produced military items such as planes and tanks; however no loss or damage resulted because these plants operated under wartime blackout regulations which restricted night manufacturing operations to approved manufacturers only.(5) On September 15th 1978 while riots were still taking place throughout much of America over racial tensions caused by economic inequality between minority groups including African Americans farmers ...the FBI responded with undercover agents disguised as black church members called "Guns for hire." One member infiltrated an anti-government group led by white lawyer Melvin Watkins with orders to attack any black person seen during their gathering regardless of whether they posed any threat or not; this plan succeeded without incident.(6)(7) A few weeks later another similar undercover operation took place when agents disguised themselves as Negroes asked about job offers from businessmen looking for workers during lunchtime at an AFL union hall; this time no serious results came about because most witnesses refused to cooperate with authorities)(8) These operations are one reason why community relations have always been good in Stclair Shores - unlike some other towns which have seen recent tension due to economic disparities among minority groups

St. Clair Shores is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 7,032 at the 2010 census. The name "St. Clair Shores" derives from the French words "Saint-Clair," meaning "a place of clear waters." The first settlement in what is now St. Clair Shores was made by fur traders on the Rouge River in 1798. In 1814, a group of Methodist missionaries founded a small chapel in what is now downtown Saint ClairShores and began to preach Christianity to the local Native Americans. A store and post office were built in 1826 on Crescent Street, and around this time many new families moved into the city from rural areas nearby. In 1857 the town became part of Wayne County when it was created from parts of Oakland and Macomb counties. In 1907, work began on creating an electric street railway line between Detroit and Flint that would serve Saint Clair Shores as well as other towns along its route. This line became known as the Detroit Electric Railway (DER), which served SaintclairShore until it closed down in 1951. The Third World War led to an increase in immigration to St. Clair Shores during wartime times; many Japanese people came here to work on aluminum smelters or do other jobs for war production companies such as Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Corporation. Over time there also arose concern among some residents about how much economic development had taken place without their consent or participation; this issue is still remembered today by some who feel that city officials should have been more open about what was happening within their borders during wartime years The merged cities of Warren Park (Lansing Township) and Northfield (Oakland Township) formed St..Clairshore municipality in 1987; however, this merger failed to gain approval from either township's board of directors due to disagreements over governance responsibilities for both communities combined . Today's downtown area contains businesses located throughout various blocks including: square one center – home of Orchard Supply Co., Dunkin' Donuts & Coffee Outlet - anchor tenant since 2006; two large courthouses – Santa Clara County Courthouse & Oakland County Courthouse - both used sporadically during courthouse renovation projects beginning in early 2017; four churches - First Congregational Church & Evangelistic Baptist Church are Downtown while All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church is located off I-76 exit 13A next door across from Sheetz convenience store/grocery store - largest congregation within city limits . Streetscape changes include widened sidewalks adjacent main business districts with planting areas providing green space between each block; replacement older brick homes with newer precast concrete buildings designed by landscape architects WSP Landscape Architects LLC.; repainting entire upper level facade blacksmith shop building which has been vacant since early 2017 removed + all windows replaced with energy efficient glass contemporary designs
In 1847, Shores was founded by John Bellew and his family. The town is located on the eastern bank of the St. Clair River near its mouth on Lake Michigan. It became a small community with few residents in the late 1800s as sugarcane farming became more popular in the area. In 1904, Shores was renamed after Gen. George Armstrong Custer, who died in action during the Indian Wars.
