In 1898, Wm Fenton opened a grocery store on State Street and began selling knifes and other household items. Walker is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The following year saw the opening of what would be one of Walker's most significant businesses: The Warren Paper Company which manufactured paper products such as envelopes and postcards until it went bankrupt in 1976. In 1980, George Wernick opened Wernick's Pizza which has been serving Walker residents since that time; it remains one of the town's most popular attractions today. In recent years,Walker has seen increased development due to its strategic location within easy reach of three major highways: I-94 (to the west), US 22 (to the east) and M-36 (to the south). This has led to new investment including retail developments such as Target and Sears Village Zellweger Plaza; office buildings such as One Michigan Place; and a large park called Grosse Pointe Park which includes several baseball fields, a basketball court, tennis courts, playgrounds and swimming pools

Walker, Michigan is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is located on the eastern border of Ottawa County, on the Old River east of Mackinac Island. The population was 1,022 at the 2010 census. Walker was named after George Walker, an early settler and one of the original promoters of the town site. The first permanent Indian settlement in what is now Walker was made by Metcalfe and others in 1794. By 1827, however, all but two families had departed for other parts of Michigan because of hostility from Native Americans over land grants they had received as part of their treaties with them. In 1824, John Snyder bought 640 acres (250 hectares) from Chief Joseph Traverse for $5 per acre (1 hectare). He named it "Walker" after his friend and landlord George Walker who had given him help finding land in that area. At first only men could farm there because no tools or vehicles were available then; later women also began to grow crops and raise livestock. In 1836 Snyder sold the land to Major General David Dixon for $75 per acre (3 hectares). In 1840–41 James McNaughton built a sawmill on the Old River near present day Walker while he was military governor of Upper Canada; this mill became one of Lansing's most important businesses during its early years as a city. A post office called "Walker" was established in 1868, but it never gained any recognition due to its remote location and lack of mail service until 1909 when it changed its name to "Lansing". In 1870–71 James Ladd erected a large frame school house which served as both school and township hall until it burned down in 1923; new construction began soon afterward and it serving as courthouse until 1962 when it moved into new facilities at downtown Lansing. The old school house remains standing as a museum today. Walker has been home to several churches since its founding: First Presbyterian Church (1870), Methodist Episcopal Church (1872), Baptist church (1892), Catholic church (1912), Lutheran church (1933) and Pentecostal church (2006). The largest resident group during this time were Germans who came primarily to work in nearby Flint jobsites throughout most of the 20th century before moving back into Walker permanently around 1970s-2000s while Howell Lake grew larger each year becoming more diverse with more restaurants/bars/nightlife open showing that not only did not have an effect on overall growth rate within town center like some would hope but also actually declined over time leading people nowadays believe that once again economic decline led by big box store development actually caused decrease overall crime rates within community!
Walker was a small town in the Midwestern United States until it merged with neighboring Battle Creek in 1887. The two towns traded population and land, with Walker taking on an agricultural role while Battle Creek became a manufacturing center. By 1930, Walker had shrunk to its current size, but the community remains culturally significant for its creation of the first all-electric car in America.
