Apple Valley is a small town in Bergen County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The name "Apple Valley" originated from a collection of apple orchards that were located in what is now the town. The first settlers in Apple Valley were farmers who arrived around 1857. By 1865, the town had been organized and was named after Apalachicola County, Florida landowner John A. Applewhite. In 1870, Calvin Coolidge was elected as president of the United States and spent his first term in office in Washington D.C., where he visited Apple Valley twice- both times to deliver speeches at an agricultural fair being held there by Senator James Buchanan and Congressman Dearborn Hennepin (who also represented Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District). Upon his return to America on September 12th 1870, President Coolidgewrote to Mrs. Applewhite thanking her for giving him such a warm welcome while he was staying in Apalachicola: "I append this card herewith to my letter which I sent you yesterday." During the late 1800s and early 1900s many businesses and families moved into Apple Valley from all over Minnesota including Duluth, Rochester, Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg, Buffalo Grove/Elmwood Park/Aurora Heights etc.. Some of these businesses still exist today including First National Bank (now Wells Fargo), Gulfstream GAS stations - now owned by Xcel Energy - as well as Sunoco gas stations across from Central Park Elementary School on Plymouth Road near Interstate 94 which has been home to various businesses since it opened its doors back in 1922! In addition to its numerous businesses throughout the years there have also been many residences built within the community over time with some remaining active until very recently like First Methodist Church which remains one of only two original churches present within Apple Valley; along with several other contributing properties making up what is currently known as Pioneer Square!
