There are also a few small businesses including a truck stop and a grocery store. Austin is famous for its annual cornhusker festival which takes place in late summer or early fall. This event features local musicians playing country music throughout the city as well as contests such as cornhole or potato throws; there is also food vendors along both sides of Main Street from which attendees can purchase traditional Sioux County cuisine such as Pie crusts or bison liver pate!

The first people to live in Austin were Indian traders and missionaries who arrived there in 1853. Austin was named after Captured Texas Ranger John Brierly, who had been killed while trying to capture Indians in 1846. In 1857, Congress created Dakota Territory andAustin became part of that territory. In 1862, Dakota Territory was divided into two parts, one including Austin and the other including Mars Hill (now Bottineau). The residents of Mars Hill voted to stay within their own community when they were given an opportunity to do so by territorial officials. In 1865, United States troops arrived inMinnesota to help put down a civil war between pro-slaveryoutherners and abolitionists known as the Great Sioux War. The soldiers found new homes for themselves in Appleton and nearby towns such as Winona before moving on in 1870 back into Dakota Territory where they lived until its cession to Canada in 1908. In 1907, when Minnesota became a state, it annexed Appleton from Dakota Territory; this made Austin its fulltime resident community once again.During World War II (1941-1945), local industries helped contribute greatly to wartime food production throughout the Midwest; Austin saw some particularly significant activity during this time period with respect to shipbuilding and aircraft manufacturing among others After World War II ended hostilities ceased altogether but many aspects of daily life continued unchanged: social services continued through government assistance which gradually decreased over time as funding became scarce; public education remained available through parochial schools until 1965 when charter schools took over however high school graduation rates continue below national averages well into recent decades
