The history of airguns in Edina, Minnesota can be traced back to the early 1900s. When American soldiers were stationed in Europe during World War I, they brought home surplus firearms and ammunition. One of the first companies to sell these weapons was Savage Arms, who donated a number of rifles and shotguns to the local armory. The armory then began manufacturing airguns for civilians. In 1923, AJS Firearms became the first company in Edina to sell handguns under their own name. At that time, handguns were still considered rifle or shotgun-based devices. However, with the advent of prohibition in America, handgun sales started to decline as people began instead to purchase rifles and shotguns. However, this did not last long; within a few years AJS had resumed sales of handguns as well as rifles and shotguns. During World War II (1939-1945), Edina saw an influx of military personnel and their families who came ashore on Lake Superior for operations such as Operation Neptune’s Spear. This event led to an increase in gun ownership among civilians and also increased demand for handguns which now became available once again due to prohibition being lifted two years later. After the war ended, firearm ownership continued to grow throughout America as more people returned home from overseas deployments with new arsenals full of assault rifles and pistols waiting for them at home base. On July 1st 1953, Edina passed a ordinance banning shooting galleries indoors without prior warning to all citizens living within one mile radius thereof (this ordinance was repealed two years later). This law served as a deterrent against recreational shooters who previously had been able to take advantage of loopholes created by previous ordinances banning shooting galleries altogether or only giving residents three days notice before any such gatherings took place inside municipal boundaries (gun owners could still shoot outside however). Edina continues its love affair with firearms through both retail outlets which carry guns legally while also offering classes/tournaments/sportsman events specific thereto; some examples include NRA certified courses teaching Safe Gun Handling techniques while others offer target shooting contests open ONLY TO GUN OWNERS!
