The Forest Lake community of about 2,000 people was first settled in the area in 1871. The first gun store in Forest Lake was opened by W.H. McFarlane and brothers. The store was located on Third Street near what is now the town square. In 1901, the city of Minneapolis bought the land around Forest Lake and built a park on it, including a small gunsmith shop. That year, also, the first police department inForest Lake was formed with five officers. On October 14th, 1903, Mayor Dickey sent out a call for anyone who could give him information about a bandit group operating in the area that had been robbing people and stealing property. Of course, no one knew anything about bandits then! In 1916, when World War I started and demand for goods increased due to war-related rationing, forest lake residents raised money to buy two rifles from Chicago arms merchants and ship them into town for use by their local police force. At that time only men were allowed to own guns within city limits so this gesture meant a lot to many residents who felt they needed help defending themselves during wartime. Around 1925-1927 an ordinance went into effect regulating handguns which limited their ownership to those owning at least six firearms per household per year (at that time handguns were still considered shotguns). This ordinance also required owners to have permits which could be obtained from township officials or from state officials if they wished to sell or lease their handgun(s) not just keep them locked up as required by law (and some did!). These regulations remain in place today though handgun possession has since been reclassed as “possession of an unloaded shotgun” instead of “ownership of 6 firearms/household annually” under current ordinances! On March 3rd 1928 two gunmen entered the home of Mrs Mabel Nichols Sr., widow of Dr Mabel Nichols Jr., one shot her husband three times before leaving his house unharmed; Mrs Nichols called 911 immediately and reported her husband shooting at trespassers! This incident became known as "the frontier shootout". It remains oneof Minnesota's most famous gunfights! One more noteworthy event took place here on July 15th 1934 when Sheriff Aiken responded to reports of shots being fired inside a movie theater on Third Street NE where he found nine citizens dead after being shot at pointblank range while inside! This ended Minnesota's most publicized massacre ever!!!

Forest Lake is home to numerous retail businesses including three grocery stores (Cascade Super Markets; Wildcraft; Butchertown), two convenience stores (Albertsons/Grocery Outlet; Pepsico), two barber shops (Kennedy Barber Shop & Hairdresser's Shop), four restaurants (Pizza Hut; Japanese BBQ House; Golden Corral Buffet Cafe & Grill; Dairy Queen), one ice rink (Lakeview Ice Rink) and two hotels - both with full services: Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Conference Center and Marriott Marquis Hotel - as well as more than 20 small businesses that provide variety goods and services to residents and tourists alike. A wide range of outdoor activities are available at or around Forest lake such as fishing, swimming, boating, hiking/climbing/mountain biking etc., making it an ideal spot for vacationers or locals looking for a relaxing getaway from it all!

In the early 20th century, handguns were not as common as they are today. They were used for hunting and target shooting, but were not considered security devices. This handgun had a small caliber bullet that was easily concealable and could be fired quickly. This law led to the decline of handguns as a security device because shotguns and rifles became more popular and easier to obtain. However, this did not mean that gun owners stopped using them as security tools. Forest Lake is a small town in the far east side of Minnesota, on the shores of Lac de la Croix River. It was founded in 1857 by fur traders, and was originally called "Dalhousie." The city's growth spurt continued during World War I when many businesses were closed due to prohibition. Throughout the 1920s and 30s, forest lake experienced steady economic development thanks to its location at the edge of an agricultural area that produced high-quality hay and corn products. However, during World War II much of eastern Minnesota's manufacturing output went to wartime production plants such as Bethlehem Steel in Milwaukee and Minneapolis-St Paul Shipyards in Duluth. As a result of these factors, forest lake struggled through most of the war years; however, it regained some stability by postwar years and began to experience significant growth again throughout the late 20th century. In recent decades, ForestLake has seen renewed interest from developers who have plans for new housing developments and businesses along its main drag - Main Street - as well as other redevelopment projects which are currently under way or still underway within its boundaries. Along with this growing population there has been an increase in social activity withinForestLake; several churches have been established here over the past few decades while another major focus has been developing athletic facilities for local children across various age groups: indoor/outdoor soccer fields (the latest addition being a football field), basketball courts (including two state-of-the-art gymnasiums),and baseball diamond(s). All these activities contribute to providing some degree of community life which can be enjoyed by all who live here...

Forest Lake is a small town in the east side of Minnesota, United States. The population was 598 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1881 by lumbermen and farmers who bought land from the Chisholm Trail Company. Forest Lake became a stop on the Duluth-Superior Railway in 1903 and soon began to grow as a bedroom community for Duluth and its surrounding towns. In 1906, Forest Lake incorporated as an independent city, becoming one of only two communities in Minnesota to do so that year. In 1958, it merged with neighboring Maplewood to form a larger city called Maplewood-Forest Lake. In 1966, ForestLake repealed its incorporation status and became an unincorporated community once again; however, it still has municipal services provided by Maplewood-Forest Lake residents. Today, ForestLake retains much of its rural character with several large farms and orchards close to town center. As well, there are several smaller villages within easy driving distance: Garden City (northwest), Springdale (southwest), White Bear Lakes (east), and Richfield (northeast).
