Lakeville, Minnesota is a small town located in southern Minnesota. The population was 7,057 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lake County and has a government that is made up of a mayor and nine council members. The town was founded in 1881 by Norwegian immigrants. The first permanent settler in Lakeville was Jonas Nilsen, who arrived in 1881. Some early pioneers were Ole Olsen, John Hagenauer, Peder Sjodin, Lars Rasmussen and others. In 1912, Julius Nygaard purchased the land east of town from the Rasmussens for $1 million dollars. He built his home there and named it Nygaard Manor after his father-in-law, Julius Nygaard Sr.. There were several other major landowners who had their homes or businesses in or near Lakeville during its early years: Einar Aasland (1878-1964), Jens Nordborg (1902-2003), Ole Olsen (1885-1973), Thorvald Hansen (1893-1971) and Peder Sjodin (1860-1924). Nordborg Paper Company was founded here in 1902 by Jens Nordborg and Ole Olsen. It became one of the most important paper companies in America during its time period. The company operated out of Nygaard Manor until it moved to its current site on Snelling Avenue southeast of town in 1961. The building still stands today as part of North Dakota State University's Carlson Library complex which also includes a schoolhouse used by the local high school students from 1922 to 1959 before they went to nearby South High School In 1958, when South High School closed down due to budget cuts, Lakeville voters approved an referendum asking if they should build a new high school on property owned by Nordborg Paper Company which would serve both schools simultaneously instead of just South High School which would have been closing down one location after another like many communities across America at that time . This project finally came to fruition when North Dakota State University opened their new Carlson Library complex on Snelling Avenue adjacent to South High School which allowed for simultaneous enrollment for both schools The original building on Snelling Ave., now housing North Dakota State University's Carlson Library complex with its old schoolhouse serving as an office building until 1961 served as the town's library from 1922 through 1959

Lakeville is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,936 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ramsey County and a hub of cultural and economic activity in the area. The name comes from the Minneapolis-St. Paul Railway Company's line that stopped at what is now the eastern edge of town in 1872, near present day Lakeville Middle School. The first settler in what is now Lakeville was James Laughlin, who arrived in 1871. Laughlin's land was part of Township No. 5 south of present day Grand Forks and he named his new settlement "Lakinburg." A post office called Lakinburg was established in 1874, but it did not remain open long due to competition from nearby White Bear Lake. In 1876, James Cramer settled on land adjacent to Lakinburg and named his new community "Cramer City". By 1880, all settlements within what are now Ramsey County had been abandoned by their settlers due to lack of water or disease concerns; only Lakinburg remained standing. In 1886, construction began on the Minneapolis-St. Paul Railway Company's line between Minneapolis and Saint Paul; this would later become known as the Great Northern Railroad system. On July 26th of that year (the date which still marks an important anniversary for local residents), Chauncy Davenport purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) southeast of today's Lakeville for $10 per acre ($4 million at current prices). This original purchase included most of present-day Lakeshore Drive east of US Highway 6A/MN State Highway 204A – making it one of Minnesota’s largest rural real estate acquisitions ever made. Davenport renamed his property "Lakeville" after himself and donated it to the state for development into a farmstead site with malaria resistant mosquitoes as its centerpiece – an idea which he had originated with fellow railroader John Galt back home in Minnesota’s Duluth region! The state designated 400 acres (128 hectares) around Davenport Park as a parkland reserve in 1895; this parcel remains today within downtown Lakeville proper! By 1907, there were over 100 businesses operating out of downtown Lakeville - many serving the surrounding agricultural communities like White Bear Lake and Maple Grove along with urban shoppers traveling through Stroudsburg or Maplewood on their way to take advantageof Twin Cities jobsites just outside town limits! In 1912, entrepreneurs Harry Houck and Clarence Eldredge founded Houck Drug Stores Ltd., one ofMinnesota’s earliest commercial drugstores - located inside what is now Davenport Park! One hundred years later - Houck Drug Stores Ltd., together with other retail businesses existing within downtown lakeVILLE today - continue serving up high quality health care products options for everyone from people living paycheck-to-paycheck right up until they hit Medicare eligibility! Today – while much has changed both geographically & culturally within & around DowntownLakeVILLE since 1915 when these same establishments opened their doors...the foundational values which drove these businesses forward still endure (& continue to generate positive economic impact)...including friendliness & service always being our top priorities
Lakeville was founded in 1851 by farmers from the town of Hawthorn. The town grew rapidly and by 1875, there were over 100 residents. By 1907, Lakeville had reached its peak population with over 1,500 residents. In 1925, the city was annexed by Minneapolis.
