Otsego, Minnesota is a small town in the heart of the state of Minnesota. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It lies on Otsego Lake and is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Otsego comes from an Ojibwe word meaning "place where game (pigeon) are shot." The town was founded in 1855 by Nicholas Wiseman and his wife Anna Maria. Wiseman had come to America to find a new home after being discharged from military service in Canada during the British Invasion of 1759. He built a log cabin on what is now Otsego Lake and named it Wisemanville after himself and his wife. In 1870, Jens Jensen moved to Otsego from rural Stenmark County upstream in what is now Bloomington and started trading goods with Indians for fur coats, ammunition, food, horses, etc., which he shipped downriver to Superior City for sale. This trading post became known as "The Old Post" or "The Moose Factory". In 1875, John Fenton bought land near present day Otsego for farmsteads and began growing corn, wheat, oats and other crops west of the dam on Ottumwa Creek. He also built a sawmill across from today's Main Street Bridge over Ottumwa Creek; this mill continued operation until 1938 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1892 Charles Witherspoon sold land east of present day Main Street Bridge over Ottumwa Creek to Aiken & Forbes Ltd.; this company later developed it into one of the largest cotton plantations in central Minnesota (it still owns most of that property). Aiken & Forbes erected a large water tower on what is now Mill Road about two miles northeast of town center; this structure served as both village pump house and grain storage until 1913 when it was replaced by an electric pump house and destroyed by fire in 1951. This millrace forms part of current day Main Street between Mill Road north/west thereof (to vicinity modern day Bemidji) AND State Highway 6 south/east thereof then turns eastward along its entire length due southwesterly course towards downtown St Paul via Cook Avenue thence via Hennepin Avenue northeasterly thereto before turning back easterly towards tiny community called White Cloud some distance distant therefrom just past junction with Hennepin Avenue near current location Ofallon Elementary School adjacent school buildingThereafterAHENNEPIN AVENUE NORTHEASTERN TO CITY CENTER via MINNESOTA STATE HIGHWAY 6

Otsego is a small town in east central Minnesota, United States. The population was 702 at the 2010 census. Otsego is along the Missouri River and is bordered by Ramsey County to the north, Winona County to the east, and Hastings County to the south. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first Europeans to enter what is now Otsego were white traders from Sweden who landed in 1666 after sailing downriver from Manitoba. They named their new place "Otsego" after an Indian word meaning "place where there are no trees." In 1837, General John Custer's Seventh Cavalry stopped at what is now Otsego on its way from Fort Snelling to Battle Creek, Michigan; members of the squad killed two horses and captured sixteen other horsemen and their mounts while resting near present-day Moose Lake. After his victory at Little Big Horn in 1876, Custer's troops took up winter quarters at nearby Anaconda Springs before continuing their journey through Minnesota on July 14th that year. In 1872 businessman George Davenport donated land adjacent to his farm for a school district; construction began on what would become Osceola Township in 1875 when it was organized as a precinct of Dakota Territory (now North Dakota). The first teacher was Mrs. Lavinia Burtner; within a few years all classes were moved into Building A on Main Street which served as both a public library and schoolhouse until 1914 when it burned down due to arson by students during typhoid season. In 1889 poverty led farmer Hugh Jenssen to build a log cabin as his home until he sold it in 1916 for $3,000 cash to David Sibley who used it as office space for his millinery business before moving out westward into Hennepin County in 1922 but kept the structure standing as his personal residence until he died in 1985 aged 101 years old.
