The Sauk Rapids community was founded in 1855, when the Duluth and Superior Railroads built a line from Duluth to Superior. The town was named for General James H. Sauk, who served as a brigadier general in the Union army during the American Civil War. The railroad arrived in 1865, and within two years, Sauk Rapids had a population of 100 people. By 1870, the town had grown to 300 people and by 1880 it had reached its current size of 2,500 people. The first post office was established in Sauk Rapids on July 1st, 1881. In 1907, the city of Sauk Rapids merged with neighboring Town of Morey to form the present-day city of Sauk Rapids.
Sauk Rapids, Minnesota is a town in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,752 at the 2010 census. Sauk Rapids is located on the Mississippi River and features a downtown area with shopping and dining options as well as a variety of cultural attractions. The Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area is to the south and west of Sauk Rapids. The first Europeans to visit what is now Sauk Rapids were French traders who landed there in 1638. In 1871, the town was platted when a group of investors purchased land near present day Union Boulevard and Michigan Avenue from the Chippewa Indians for $2 per acre. From this location, Sauk Rapids grew rapidly due to its abundant natural resources that included limestone, coal and oil shale; these resources led to many businesses being established in the early years of its existence including steamboats connecting Chicago with points eastward. By 1890, SaukRapid had become an important commercial center for eastern Manitoba and western Minnesota due to its good transportation connections by railroads as well as its proximity to cities such as Minneapolis-St. Paul and Winnipeg. In 1907, American businessman George Westinghouse donated land in downtown Sauk Rapids for use as a stockyards; this donation helped spur development around the current downtown area which includes several blocks of large warehouses used today for storage purposes only (e.g., M&M's). One significant feature of this district are several small hotels that once served as meeting places for businessmen or politicians visiting nearby towns during state government meetings or other events; these hotels are now used primarily for conventions or other special events unrelated to business activity. At various times throughout history various types of industries have been based in SaukRapid including agricultural production (1910s-1920s), heavy manufacturing (1930s-1950s), chemical research (1960s-present), military testing sites (1980s-1990s) and energy production (2000s-present). Due largely to its strategic location on two major waterways -the Mississippi River adjacent to Interstate 90/94 corridorand Iron Range country lying immediately north -SaukRapid has been designated an "area anchor" community by both the City of Minneapolis and Hennepin County governments since at least 1990 while also enjoying growing attention from developers looking to densify their neighborhoods within walking distance or less than one mile away from local retail stores or services amenities like schools, hospitals or airports

Sauer Rapids is a small town in Rice County, Minnesota, United States. Sauk Rapids was founded in 1871 by Danish immigrants. The population was 535 at the 2010 census. The community is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River, south of Minneapolis. Sauk Rapids is one of 15 towns and villages that form the Rice County Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Sauk Rapids was founded in 1856 by Isaac and Emma Sauk. The Sauks built a log cabin on the present site of Sauk Rapids High School in 1857. They named their settlement after Michael Rodgers, an early settler in the area. In 1861, the Sauks organized a township and planted corn, wheat, and other crops in what is now downtown Sauk Rapids. The town gained its first post office in 1865 by appointment of the county commissioners. In 1872, the community incorporated as a village under the name of Sauk Rapids Village. That year saw construction of the first school building on Main Street in downtown Sauk Rapids. The village had two churches- First Congregationalist and Second United Lutheran until it merged with neighboring Black River Township to form Black River Township Village Incorporated in 1916. By 1918, all but one of the original buildings had been torn down or replaced with new ones; however, one church still stands - First United Lutheran Church (now Pioneer Hall). Over time, downtown Sauk Rapids grew into one of Minnesota's most vibrant communities with many businesses and restaurants along Main Street including several banks and department stores as well as a large number of residential blocks constructed between 1915-1920 which remain today among Minnesota's most colorful neighborhoods
