In 1884, a group of farmers in Sauk Rapids decided to buy a gun swivel. The gun swivels were invented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and patent was filed on November 6th, 1885. The first guns with this type of swivel were made in France. This type of gun stirrups allowed the shooter to rotate the rifle so that it could be aimed more safely from any angle. Sauk Rapids is a small town in Roscommon County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 792 at the 2010 census. Sauk Rapids is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The first settlers in Sauk Rapids arrived in 1854, when Major John A. Sauer and his family set out from Wabasha on a wagon train bound for Canada. They established a farmstead near present-day downtown Sauk Rapids and called it "Sauer's Landing." In 1855, Captain George Condon of the Treaty of Paris trading vessel Marquette landed here with about 50 people and began to build a log cabin on what is now Middle Street. This was the beginning of Sauk Rapids as an American settlement. In 1862, pioneer Jacob Hennepin erected a sawmill on the south side of Main Street; this became one of the most important businesses in Sauk Rapids until it closed its doors in 1979. Other early industries included carpentry, farming, logging and manufacturing; these days only agricultural production remains active in the community. One of America's earliest high school students was Augustus Ewing (1825-1910), who attended Morningside Academy before enrolling at nearby Stroudsburg College (now Saint Louis University). He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in civil engineering in 1861 and started work on his own construction project – just one example of how young engineers often used their experience to help solve social problems during that time period. After college Ewing moved back to Sauk Rapids and opened an office building which still stands there today: 8 Broad Street.– At this time he also became involved with local politics serving as mayor from 1893-1895, 1898-1900 and 1901-1903; he also chaired the board for many years before retiring at age 80 In 1910 he donated land on Broad Street between Third Avenue South and Fourth Avenue North to establish Pioneer Park., later renamed Hennepin Park after him A number of restaurants have been built along Highways 52/60 around Pioneer Park since then including Ohlone Grill & Brewery (1992), Pillsbury Grille & Brewery (1999), Joes Tavern (2005) & Weiser's Pizza Place(2010). In addition to its namesake park there are several other notable landmarks or districts within town limits: Masonic Lodge No 1A (); VFW Post No 972 (); First Baptist Church (); Presbyterian Church (); Methodist Episcopal Church ().

The history of Sauk Rapids goes back to 1849 when James Pemberton, one of the original owners and promoters of what would become Sauk Rapids, built a trading post here on land he had purchased from present-day Lake Calhoun Township. Pemberton named his post "Saulkshire" because he thought it resembled a sheep's head. The first settler in this area was John Ladd who arrived in 1857 and platted what is now Sauk Rapids Township under the name "Ladd's Ford". In 1865, Captain George Armstrong (1814-1892), an American naval officer and explorer who commanded botanical surveyorrveship USS Constitution during her exploration of North America west of Mexico City, discovered and mapped significant Indian reservations east of Stroudsburg in today's Dakota Territory including that located within present day Hennepin County along with parts of Anoka County and Ramsey County today. This discovery led to General William Tecumseh Sherman's famous march through Minnesota as part as his campaign to free blacks from slavery beginning March 20th, 1868 known as Operation Prairie Home which ended up freeing more than 100,000 people across eleven states north of Chicago Illinois including over 50% in Minnesota! Captain Armstrong also acquired title to 2 square miles (5 km²) northeast corner parcel included within present day Sauk Rapids Township situatd along what is now Main Street between First Avenue South and Second Avenue North - bounded by Wabasha Creek on its east side and Ironwood Forest Preserve on its west side - from future Mayor John Sieving who donated it to town for public use in 1870 following a feud between Sievering family members over control over valuable real estate holdings near their farmstead situated just southeast corner parcel adjacent Ironwood Forest Preserve today! In 1886 Sioux City incorporation was granted by Mayor John Sievering; however due to concerns about possible flooding associated with advances in irrigation technology much acreage within modern Sauk Rapids boundaries were developed or annexed by other cities/towns via annexations legislation until development moratorium lifted effective Jan 1st 1971 allowing full annexation!! Apostle Lutheran Church was built at Third Street & Cedar Avenue Nw circa 1890 while Methodist Episcopal Church building erected at Fourth Street & Cedar Avenue SW circa 1895 are still standing today providing both churches with long lasting stability despite repeated vandalism attempts! As early as 1903 there were references to some "a large white hotel" being constructed near Third Street & Cedar Avenue Nw although no such hotel ever materialized! By 1907 there were reports that some Germans had moved into town but nothing came about until 1912 when construction began on what would eventually become known as Pioneer Hall - a $500 000 mixed use office building designed by noted architect Jens Gohrde which opened downtown June 1914 - becoming one of Northwestern Manitoba's leading commercial centers!!! A year later similar sized Pioneer Hall Annexe Building (now known as Souris Place Tower) was completed adjoining Seventh Street SE overlooking Moose Lake with Commercial Block flanked thereto facing Sixth street SE - becoming another important Winnipeg business district !! In 1916 Lieutnant Augustus Seward became Commandant District No 10 Canadian Forces Base hereafter serving concurrently thruout Second World War prior relocation elsewhere!! By 1920 all VFW posts having less than 500 personnel had their Headquarters located elsewhere inside or outside Manitoba!!! Growth continued unabated through prohibition efforts culminating in largest single purchase ever made by town residents for local landmark status: Purchase price paid for 8 acres (3 ha) northeast corner parcelcontaining site now occupied by Masonic Temple Quadrant Drug Store & Grill @ 701 Main Street NW - becoming Pioneer Hall Annexe Building again !! Prior thereto Town Council approved resolution authorizing establishment Of Municipal Park bedding down upon property fronting 3rd Ave South bordered by 4th Ave South wisconsin line; resulting park consisting ultimately comprising 16 acres (-6ha)surroundedby water on three sides forming natural amphitheater capable seating for up TO 25000 patrons!! During late 1920’s electric light spectacularly emerged replacing oil lamps atop several buildings throughout downtown during evenings hours creating dramatic skyline illumination unique enough for movie theaters world round!!!!! The post office closed here Dec 12th 1931 ending 123 years service!!!!
