Savage is a small town in Minnesota, located about 25 miles north of the Twin Cities. The population was 1,089 at the 2000 census. Savage has a variety of cultural influences from its surrounding rural areas, which are home to Lakota and Dakota Sioux tribes as well as other Plains Indian groups. The most common language spoken in the town is English, but there is also a significant amount of Sioux and Dakota. The first Europeans to visit Savage were fur traders working for the Hudsons Bay Company in 1824-25. They stopping at what is now the town on their way to Fort Snelling in Superior, Wisconsin. In 1840, John Averill built a cabin here and named it Averill Manor after himself and his brother George Averill (1784-1860). In 1868, Captain James Wainwright (1800-1875) visited this area and named it after him after his shipwrecked stranded here with his crew on July 4th of that year off the coast of Holland Island. The first post office was established here on January 20th, 1872. In 1916 US President Woodrow Wilson traveled through this area on his way from Duluth to Minneapolis and stopped at Averill Manor for lunch before continuing his journey southward. On July 5th of that year he ordered General Douglas MacArthur to send units into Japan to end World War I while he attended a peace conference in Paris nearby. That same day General MacArthur's unit reached Savage via an open field just east of town where they were met by local militiamen who had been waiting for them since morning. Aftermath: Unknown - There was no battle or skirmish reported between American forces and local Native Americans

Savage is a small town located in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Savage has been home to a post office since 1881 and to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds since 1907. The first white settler in what is now Savage was John Witherspoon in 1853. The name "Savage" likely derived from an Indian word meaning "wilderness." In 1885, the post office was moved from White Bear Lake to Savage because of railroad construction in that area. The first store in what is now Savage opened on Main Street in 1887 and soon became one of the leading businesses in town. This store was later renamed Hennepin County Bank & Trust Company after it merged with other banks around this time. In 1907, the Minnesota State Fairgrounds were established at what is now Savage and continue to be used today as a fairgrounds/ Exhibition Center/ Recreational Area combo degree school and cultural center etc.). One of the early pioneers here was Drury Ewing who also founded Crow Wing Academy (now Faribault High School) back east near Mankato in1892 which started out as a girls' school but eventually became coeducational as well! In 1912, when statehood for Minnesota was granted, Savage voted to become its first city! At that time it had only 2 streets: Main and Second Avenue which are still present today! The city began rapid growth due largely to two factors: natural resources (the natives mined coal there until 1915) and immigration (the arrival of Swedes during World War I brought many skilled workers). By 1940 there were over 100 businesses operating here including 7 grocery stores, 10 restaurants, 5 service stations plus 3 lumberyards; all within walking distance of each other! However by then most people had left for larger towns or cities elsewhere inMinnesota orIowa because of economic conditions during wartime IIndWarterIIIrd waveof American migration known as “The Great Migration”
Savage is a city in southern Minnesota, United States. The population was 9,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The first Europeans to find and land in what is now Savage were French fur traders in the 17th century. In 1825, Norwegian settlers arrived and began a trading post called "Moss Vale" on an elevation above present-day Savage. At first they cultivated crops and raised livestock but by 1830 they had built homes, a school and a store. A post office was established at Moss Vale in 1836, and by 1840 the town had two stores, one blacksmith shop and one harness shop. A sawmill was built in 1850; it continued operating until 1902 when it was replaced by an electric mill. By 1860 there were six families living in Savage with 60 head of cattle, 10 horses and 20 sheep; total production amounted to $1,500 per year according to local records." In 1861 Chauncey Waddell surveyed what would become modern day Savage while serving as Indian agent for the Dakota Native American tribe under treaty negotiations with the Ulysses S Grant administration; he named his settlement "Savage". On December 12th 1865 three volunteer militiamen from Minnesota's 3rd Volunteer Infantry Regiment burned down Waddell's Trading Post (now known as White Sands Casino) after capturing goods valued at $3 million that had been stolen from Fort Snelling military storage depot near Marshalltown Iowa just five miles away on December 5th 1865 during the Dakota War of 1862-1863 (Dakota Sioux Conflict). This event helped spur development around this location including white settler construction of what became White Sands Casino which opened its doors on January 8th 1926
