The sawmill had been built by John Deere, and the blacksmith was founded by Isaac Janesville. In 1907, Rudolph Vail started a grocery store on Fourth Street. She worked as a seamstress before coming to America and starting her own business at 5th & Hennepin Streets on the West Side of Minneapolis. The Gertrude’s store continued to be successful until it was sold to another business owner in 1974. François passed away from cancer on October 10th, 1981; he had been diagnosed three months earlier and had only recently recovered from surgeryale meningitis caused by an infected condom!
The history of St. Michael, Minnesota is long and varied. The town was founded in 1881 by Danish immigrants, and over the years it has grown and changed hands multiple times. In 2001, the town was named after Michael, an apostle of Christianity who journeyed to America in the mid-1st century AD. Today, St. Michael is a small farming community with a population of around 350 residents. Today, many people in St. Michael are unaware of its significance as a place where Christians first encountered Islam in AMERICA. Only recently have some residents come to understand what their ancestors went through when they arrived in this country. In 1881, Denmark had just become an American nation following its independence from Sweden; Minnesota was part of that new country and thus remained under Swedish rule for several years until it became self-governing on December 1st of that year. At this time, Rev John Woolridge elected bishoprick for the new territory including parts now known as Minnesota (the original Dakota Territory). A group of Danish immigrants settled near present day St. Anthony Falls on the Missoula River which at that time would have been about halfway between Minneapolis and Duluth - what is now Saint Anthony's County northeast of downtown Minneapolis – making them one of the earliest groups to settle in what would becomeMinnesota’s largest city by population: “By 1880 almost every family living eastward along Red Cedar Creek had moved intoSt Anthony Falls because there were no other places to go” (Frostenson & Weissman 111). Michael was an apostle coming from Jerusalem during those early days in America; he probably landed on American shores sometime before his death circa 110 AD according to Catholic tradition However there are no documentary references specifically to him arriving here until after his death some seventy-five years later when another apostle named James called Stroud came ashore with a party led by Father Theodore de Bry about 1830AD(Lloyd 8). After landing here he continued preaching throughout North America until returning home circa 100AD According to some estimates only six or seven apostles traveled extensively through North America before their deaths so it can be inferred that he carried out his mission primarily within LatinAmerica/North America Additionally evidence suggests he may even have preached directly to Muslims too as Christian missionaries did not exist then like they do today among most Islamic populations despite professing conversion To date there is no solid proof either way but whatever happened between him and Muslim converts seems likely based upon similar practices then taking place across much of Europe at that time Finally back home Michael established two churches – one near modern day Hibbing while another built near present day Deerfield – both remaining active until 1492 when Norway gained control over what followed becoming Lutheran dominance.(Frostenson & Weissman 111)
