The Stedman Belt Holster allows users to choose between two narrowed straps that run along the outside edge of their belt loop (Figure 2) This type of holster was later replaced by the Army's M1911A1 Pistol Belt HOLSTER during World War II due to its vulnerability to fifth columnists removing weapons from service units (Kirkpatrick 1988). With the advent of handguns like assault rifles and machineguns, it became necessary to develop more secure handgun holstering systems. One such system was the Kydex Holster developed by John Brophy in 1976 (Ferguson 1978). The Kydex Holster uses elastic bands that cinch together the gun barrel and pistol grip area making it difficult for anyone other than an experienced gun owner to remove your firearm without causing harm (Kirkpatrick 1988).
