In 1916, when World War I broke out, Waconia became one of several towns along the border between Canada and America that experienced significant violence throughout the conflict. This violence led to an increase in business activity in town as people sought refuge from combat zones across both countries. As war continued to rage outside of America, many citizens left their homes for safety reasons or because they could not support themselves without income from their farms or businesses.. In 1922, when Waconia’s own mayor died suddenly, local citizens elected Fred Pohlman as their new Mayor. During his time as Mayor, he worked hard to improve infrastructure such as roads and bridges within the community while improving public education opportunities for locals children- something which still continues today through schools operated bythe municipality itself! In 1930, when Waconia voted to become an incorporated city under state law*, it marked another milestone in its history as an active community engaged with society on both local AND national levels*.
