Greenwood is a town in Hinds County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. Greenwood was founded in 1892 by John Greenwood and is named for him. It is located on the Red River. In 1865, Greenwood was part of the Uniontown–Gulfport area of Jackson County. In 1868, it became part of Hinds County and was incorporated as a village in 1872. The first white settler in Greenwood was John Greenwood Sr., who came to the area from Alabama with his family in 1892. He built a cabin on the banks of the Red River and named it "Greenwood". The community has experienced several uprisings over its history due to economic jealousy or racial discrimination against African Americans. A notable uprising took place on March 8, 1915 when black soldiers under General Wofford Loyd were dismissed from their posts after refusing to salute white officers during military drills outside of Greenwood; they instead marched into town to demand their rights as citizens. The protesters were eventually arrested and one black soldier killed while resisting arrest. On May 4, 1930, approximately seventy-five people were killed whenwhite farmers burned down a cotton gin near Greenwood; this led to an uproar throughout the cotton-growing region because no blacks had been injured or killed as a result of that event until years later when news stories began appearing about similar incidents happening elsewhere in Mississippi without anyoses occurring

It was decided that rifleround would be better suited for fighting larger creatures over close quarters because it could now hit them from a distance with greater accuracy. In 1885 a new type of bullet called an “armor piercing Round” was invented by John Browning which improved on earlier designs by creating a bullet that could penetrate even good quality steel armour. This made rifleround very useful for fighting armoured units such as cavalry)Although armor Piercing Rounds began being fielded by artillery generals throughout Europe during World War 1 they didn’t become popular until well into World War II when their effectiveness against armored vehicles led to their widespread adoption by air forces across all theaters of war

Greenwood was founded in 1837 by Captain Greenwood, a slaveowner and planter. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the head of navigation on the Pearl River. It became an important cotton center during the antebellum period, and during the Civil War it served as a supply depot for Union forces. After the war, Greenwood declined in importance but continued to serve as a small community until it was destroyed by fire in 1968. Greenwood is located in Gibson County, Mississippi, about 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Jackson and 20 miles (32 km) southwest of Meridian. As of the 2000 census, Greenwood had a population of 597 people. The town was laid out in 1837 by Captain Greenwood, a slaveowner and planter who obtained land around present-day Greenwood from Mississippian leader Muskogee Coon Mayes. The first settlement at what is now Greenwood began to form soon afterCaptain Greenwood acquired his land grants from Muskogee Coon Mayes. By 1838 or 1840, some forty slaves were living near present-day Greenwood when captain James Aiken purchased 600 acres (2 hectares) around what is now known as Aiken's run . Aiken's run refers to an area located just south ofpresent-day Greenwold Street between Belknap Road and Cemetery Drive where white settlers collected wild hogs for their greenbacks marketable property
