Moss Point is a town in Harrison County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. Moss Point is located on the Gulf of Mexico and is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. It is one of the most heavily industrialized communities in Mississippi. The first ammunition production in Moss Point began in 1892 by Wm. H. Holmes and others with the help of an Indian trader named George Sellers. By 1907, American Ammunition had been established as a major supplier to artillery units all over America. In 1924, Armoury Ammunition Company was founded as a subsidiary of American Ammunition Corporation with stores throughout Mississippi and Alabama along with plants in Chattanooga, Tennessee; Uniontown, Pennsylvania; and Muskegon Heights, Michigan. In 1948 Armoury Ammunition Corporation merged with Browning-Barrett which formed Browning-Arms Incorporated (BAI) later that year. The company became known for its assault rifles such as the M1 Garand and M4 carbine

Moss Point is located on the Yazoo River and is bordered by I-55 to the north, US 82 to the east, and US 31 to the south. The first Europeans to visit Moss Point were Frenchmen who set up trading posts in 1763 and 1764. The British also visited Moss Point in this period but no permanent settlement was made until 1817 when Captain John Smith built his store and post near present day downtown Moss Point. In 1837, James Kenedy founded Mobile Bay Company with cotton as its main stream of revenue from trade with Africa. After Mobile Bay Company failed in 1840 due to lack of profits from sales of cotton exports shipped through its ports of entry along Mobile Bay, Kenedy sold his share interest in Mobile Bay Company to Nathan Bedford Forrest for $2 million dollars which led to Forrest's founding of Forrest & Co., one of America's leading cotton brokers. In 1845, Drury erected a sawmill on the Yazoo River opposite present day downtown Moss Point which began production that year making lumber available for export at low prices form America's first lumberyard complex (the National Lumberyards). By 1850 Moss point had a population of 572 residents while Commercial streets ran perpendicular North/South providing transportation links between businesses within town as well as linking other towns in Jackson County with what was then new state capital Jacksonville via bridges across the Yazoo River (present day East Memphis). Moorish influences are visible throughout early photos taken by locals such as Elijah Parish during primary rice planting seasons ca 1830s-1840s some suggesting Native American assistance may have been required for field work entailing removal of brush and construction or masonry buildings necessary for irrigation systems including dams; however no mound or structures identified contemporary with early European settler days remain extant at present time verifyingMoorspiritual helpers did not arrive until later periods after new statehood pics taken
