In 1968 Mississippi passed Senate Bill No 441 which legalized possession of handguns by persons over 21 years old without a permit unless you owned 5 rounds or more of ammunition per handgun! In 1979 HB 848 added 3 new types of firearms: assault weapons (such as AR-15’s), centerfire rifles (CFRs), and pistol grip shotguns(PGS). Pistol grip shotguns are defined as those receivers having four posts that fit around each other forming an “X” shape when closed; these guns must be registered with the government and possessed with ammunition only! These changes went into effect on January 1st 1980 meaning that everyone regardless of age now has the right to own a handgun without facing prosecution!
