Blue Springs, Missouri is a small town in the Midwestern United States. It is located in Webster County, about 25 miles north of Kansas City and 30 miles south of Springfield. The population was 1,539 at the 2010 census. The first humans to live in Blue Springs were Native Americans who hunted and collected wild plants and animals around what is now the downtown area. A post office was established in 1854, and by 1870 there were 11 residents living in the community. By 1880, Blue Springs had a school, four churches (one Congregational), two stores, a hotel, and six houses. In 1902 it had an additional store and two residences. The town was platted on November 8, 1902 by C H Pritchard with W E Booth as developer. In 1922 the old Sprague Brothers Brewery building on Main Street was purchased by J T Sprague for $1,500 cash. The brewery produced beer until its closure in 1980s; today only portions of the foundations remain standing of several buildings which once housed beer tanks and Distribution Center #2 which distributed beer to local convenience stores from 1950-1980s In 1984 Sprague's Variety Store opened adjacent to his home on First Street; it operated until 1992 when it closed due to economic reasons In 1990 G F Mumford bought Sprague's Hardware store from Fred Mumford & Son Incorporated which operated it until 2003 When momford sold it to Walmart he also inherited an excellent piece of architecture from his father: Hummer Hall dating back to 1908-1910 which served as part of Walmart's Sam Walton Warehouse before being converted into a retail plaza known as IHOP on June 15th 2017 . blue springs missouri history
