In 1865, Missouri became a state after the American Civil War. The state had been divided between Union and Confederate territory. When the war ended, Missouri was part of the Union side. In 1866, a bill was passed in Congress that made firearms illegal in all states except New York and Vermont. This law applied to both men and women. In 1868, a group of men including Jesse James were tried for robbery at anvil in Springfield, Illinois. James was shot and killed while resisting arrest. This event is sometimes cited as the first shootout on American soil. The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution protects Americans' right to bear arms.
Bolivar is a small town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Bolivar is located on the border of Clay and St. Francois counties. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Bolivar was Charles Barkley who built a cabin in 1836. A post office called Bolivar was established in 1839, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1937. In 1841, John Crain founded a sawmill and gristmill near present-day Bolivar. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1865, but Crain rebuilt it and continued to operate it until his death in 1906. In 1915, Harry Bancroft opened a grocery store at the corner of Main Street and US Highway 24 south of town. The store operated for many years before being closed down by creditors in 1973. In 1933, Jerald Wirthman opened a hardware store at the northeast corner of Main Street and US Highway 24 west of town. Wirthman operated the store for more than 40 years before selling it to his son John Wirthman Jr., who also ran the store from 1970 until his death in 2008. In 1984, Floyd Jansen opened a convenience store west of town off US Highway 24 between Illinois Avenue and Elm Road (now I-244). Jansen operated the store for more than 50 years before selling it to his son Rick Jansen Sr.. In 1999, Rick Jansen Jr.'s wife Jeannine reopened their familyowned business as an Internet café called Humanities Cafe after they moved from their original location on State Parkway east of town into their current building on Main Street just north of Interstate 44/I-44 exit 606) AfterRickJansenJr.'sdeathin2008thebusinesswas soldtohissonJohnWirthmanJr.,whooperateditfrom1970untilhisdeathin2008andalsoranitfrom2000untilhis deathin2012.(page 67)In2013thebusinesswas soldtoMarcoMendez Jr.,whoopeneditupbutitsoperationhasnotbeenirmed.(page 68)Since 2014 Marco Mendez Jr has been running it as an online only business(no physical stores anymore)) It is currently unclear what will happen with this business as there have been no updates about its future since he took over

It quickly became popular among shooters because it showed off their firearm skills without any obvious danger nearby (Hickey 1912). In 1949, Springfields Manufacturing Company introduced its famous “Machine Gun Shirt” which depicted various types ofautomatic weapons such as machineguns, submachine guns, cannons, rockets etc.; all firing simultaneously from one magazine stock(Peters 1992). The Machine Gun Shirt quickly became known worldwide due to its unique design and popularity among shooters (Peters 1992). In 1970s Finger Lakes NRA sponsored a contest where contestants submitted designs for shirts portraying various types of automatic weapons including shotguns, pistols and rifles; all firing simultaneously from one magazine stock(Shepard 1990)). The winning design was presented at the NRA Annual Meeting in Nashville Tennessee in 1978(Shepard 1990)). At this meeting, Springfield Armory Corporation announced that it would produce its very own line of firearms clothing called “Springfield Armory Rifle & Pistol Clothing”(Healy 1979)) which would include rifle shirtsleeve patches depicting different types of automatic weapons along with pistol sleeves displaying similar munitions devices.(Healy 1979) This announcement signaled the beginning of an era where civilian owners could enjoy owning specific type Automatic Weapons like Machine Guns without having any fear that they might get shot down if using them commercially against their own population! The early days of T-Shirts were filled with controversy due to highotton prices then prevalent; however nowadays there is less fervor surrounding shootings due primarily to current events involving mass shootings across America that have made public ownership/use advisory for Automatic Weapons much more taboo than it once was(Anderson 2016)). Today many families enjoy wearing their gunfire related apparel around town simply because it captures some fond memories together between family members who use/owned theseweapons throughout their lifetimes!
