Clayton has been nicknamed "The Town That Time Forgot" because it only got its name from World War II when as part of Manhattan Project scientists were stationed here; however, no actual town existed until 1948 when William Jennings Bryan ran for president and mentioned that he had visited Clayton while campaigning there. In recent years, Clayton has seen an increase in development with new stores and restaurants popping up all around town square (the downtown core). One such restaurant is called "Pizza Place" which opened up in 2011 next to Walmart and offers pizza delivery as well as other Italian-themed dishes like pasta dishes, burgers, Shakeology shakes etc..

Clayton, Missouri is a small town located in the heart of the Ozarks Mountains. The town was founded in 1871 by James Clayton and his wife, Mary. The first settler in Clayton was John Mabee. In 1872, settlers started to arrive from Illinois and Kentucky. By 1876, there were over 100 people living in Clayton. The business district around the square was soon filled with tanneries, breweries, groceries and other businesses. In 1886, Clayton became an incorporated city with a population of 600 residents. That same year, it hosted the first World's Fair in America at Chapman Park. There were also many other events that took place in Clayton during this time including theMissouri State Fairgrounds where agricultural demonstrations took place and the Clyde Davenport Cotton Mill which manufactured cotton yarn for export to Europe. In 1922, Clayton experienced its most significant change when it became an independent municipality within Johnson County due to statehood requirements for municipalities within Johnson County. It now has a population of over 10K residents and is one of the most diverse communities in Johnson County with a mix of rural (mostly corn) farming as well as large manufacturing plants such as Tyson Foods and Ford Motors Corporation among others. The current mayor of Clayton is David Neuman who was elected on November 4th 2017 after winning via majority vote against two opponents who had sought to run against him before he won election night without any campaigning or opposition from either party or citizens themselves!
