The armory produced over one million rounds of ammunition for American troops during World War II alone. Today most activities in Clayton are economic: retail sales (including small businesses) account for 60% of total business income while services make up 20%. A high school in Clayton - now closed - offered classes from prekindergarten through 12th grade until 1983 when all public schools were merged into MO state education system
