Clayton is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 30,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. It is home to both the University of Missouri and Webster University, as well as several thousand small businesses and farms. holsters history in Clayton began with the opening of Colt's gunnery school in 1859 by Daniel Freeman Colt. In 1865, General John A Geary purchased land east of town for a cavalry training academy called Geary's School of Cavalrymen which would become one of the most famous military academies west of the Mississippi River. In 1896, Clayton became an incorporated municipality when it was annexed by Storrs, Arkansas (then part of Kansas). In 1907, Clayton merged with neighboring townships to form what is now known as "Clayton Township". In 1911, Clayton voters approved a $5 million bond issue to build new public schools and libraries within its boundaries; this was followed by an additional $2 million bond issue in 1912 to improve transportation infrastructure within the township including a new road system and park system. These projects were accomplished through fundraising campaigns utilizing carnival tickets issued throughouttownship and special events such as car shows or auto races that drew crowds throughoutthe year

Clayton, Missouri is an unincorporated community in Dent County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,542 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first settlers in Clayton were farmers who arrived in 1836. A post office was established at Clayton in 1838, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1870, a saw mill was built on the river near present-day Clayton Park. The mill became known as the "Queen of Millenials". In 1902, a schoolhouse and two stores were erected on what are now corner streets in Clayton. The first school opened for students in 1876. A public library was founded in 1903 by Mrs. Hester Coxeaster and moved to its current location on Main Street in 1911. Clayton is located at (39°05′01″N 95°48′27″W). According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of , all of it land. It contains one of only three remaining examples of a plank roadhouse from pioneer days; this structure still stands today across from Community Hall Road northeast of town off US Highway 20B (Oregon Avenue). The roadhouse once served as a stop for travelers en route to Independence or Ottawa Springs east of town; it also featured an isolated log cabin used by store employees as their home during winter months when they could not stay at local hotels or bed & breakfasts due to prohibition laws then extant throughout much of America south OF Kansas City metroplex/Missouri Valley/Kansas City itself... Today this rustic roadside building offers visitors unique glimpses into early pioneer life which can only be found hereabouts

In 1860, Clayton was annexed by St. Louis and became part of that city's statistics department. After the American Civil War ended, Clayton experienced rapid growth as a railroad town. However, the town's economic decline started in the late 1800s and continued until the early 1900s when it came to an end with World War I. Today, much of Clayton remains rural with a population of around 2,000. It is located just east of St Louis on Interstate 65 between Springfield and Libertyville. Clayton's history can be traced back to 1835 when John A. Clayton established himself as a landowner in what is now Clay County, Missouri. He acquired 1,200 acres (500 hectares) of land near present-day Springfield on the banks of theMississippi River for $5 per acre (0·27 km²). The site would become one of America's most important agricultural regions due to its fertile soil and good water resources; this would also lead to Clay County becoming one of America's largest cotton producing counties by 1840. In 1860, after Missouri became a state following the American Civil War, Clay County was annexed into St Louis County - making it one of three counties within that city's boundaries (the other two being African American Jefferson County and White Oak County). As part of this annexation process, local residents voted to approve a resolution recognizing Union soldiers who had fought for their state during the war - an event which helped solidify support for Confederate General Robert Enery Lee in St Louis during his bid for Missouri Governor in 1865.[1] During Reconstruction Period (1865-1877), while many African Americans were forcibly relocated fromStLouisCity limits into newly created black majority districts across Missouri,[2][3] Clay County remained largely white supremacist through political power struggles between white supremacists/ownership groups[4][5][6] In 1875-76 amid efforts by then-President Ulysses S Grant[7][8]and Secretary Andrew Johnsonto broker federal civil rights legislation(the desegregationof public education facilitiesin TopekaKansasbecameanational issueduringthisperiod),ClayCounty refusedto recognize any black citizens regardlessof residence status or voting strength[9]. This policy led to violence against black residents throughout these years including numerous cases where individuals were shot at home or while driving in their cars.[10] While some county officials did try harder to comply with federal law,[11][12], core values underlying these policies remain unchanged today: discrimination against minority groups continues unabated within local government structures across Missouri."
