The town was founded by Methodists in 1830 and named for Creve Coeur, a small village in France near Metz where many of the early Methodists had originated. In 1856, the Methodist church moved to what is now CreveCoeur from another location in nearby Jefferson City. The first school was built on Main Street in 1857 and classes began there that fall. In 1860, a post office was established at CreveCoeur and mail service between Jefferson City and Creve Coeur commenced shortly thereafter. By 1870, business had boomed so much that a second post office was established just east of town on Illinois Avenue (later renamed Prairie Road). By 1880, there were five stores and two churches within the limits of present-day CreveCoeur; four cotton ginneries operated nearby as well as three tanneries which produced hay and leather goods for local consumption as well as exported hides to nearby cities such as St. Louis and Chicago. In 1892 when Jeff Davis became president of America following his victory over Abraham Lincoln in the Ulysses S Grant election campaign, he ordered all federal buildings be destroyed including those located in Missouri; this included the old Methodist church complex which lay within present-day CreveCoeur limits but remained standing until it burned down sometime after World War II due to neglect by its original occupants A new Methodist church was erected on Illinois Avenue just west of town during the late 1800s with services continuing until 1978 when it too burned down A large garage/workshop containing an engine house/truck stop were built north of town along Prairie Road during the early 2000s adjacent to modern day High School which serves both students from neighboring towns as well as employees from various businesses withinCreve Coeur itself
