Excelsior Springs is a small town in northwestern Missouri, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The community is named after Excelsior Creek, which flows through it. The first settlers in Excelsior Springs were farmers and their families who came from nearby Belleville and other villages in 1836. A post office was established in 1841, and by 1865, all residents had moved to the new town site. In that year, a school was built, and soon afterward a Methodist Episcopal Church was organized. In 1865, local farmer Jno.[?] Wesselt set up a sawmill near the creek for lumber needs; this became one of the main economic engines of the community for many years. By 1870, Excelsior Springs had two stores and about 50 people living thereabouts. When railroad service arrived in 1871, it brought jobs to many of the early residents; though some businesses closed during prohibition (1908-1910), most continued to operate until repeal made alcohol illegal in Missouri on October 16th of that year. After World War II ended with Japan's surrender on September 2nd 1945,[1] many veteran soldiers settled down in excelsiorSprings after being discharged from military service[2][3]. They began farming again but also bought into several small businesses along with raising cattle and working around their home as ranchers for a period of time until they could return home permanently or until property values skyrocketed following passage of state legislation allowing such permanent residency rights for veterans[4][5]. Post-war growth continued with an influx of white flight beginning around 1960 when black families moved into rural areas nationwide seeking better opportunities than what they found available back east[6], although African Americans still lived predominately within economically segregated neighborhoods throughout much of America by this point[7].

The name “Excelsior” comes from two sources: one source is that this is where Augustus Fisk made his first investment in 1814; another source is that he purchase 600 acres comprising what are now Excelsior Springs and Gurnee Mills from James Meeks for $1 per acre in 1834). Nancy Excelsior left her husband John C., Sr., behind following John's death in 1886; however she continued to contribute financially towardsrowthofthecommunity even after her death in 1944. For nearly seventy years Nancy excelsdorSprings had paid taxes totaling $3 million dollars ($100 million USD today) without ever complaining about it–a record which still stands today! Today Nancy's heirs continue this tradition by paying taxes totalling almost $5 million dollars ($250 million USD today) annually – quite some accomplishment considering that most townsfolk only pay about 2% on average on municipal income tax ! John C.'S daughters Mildred A., Nancie M., Dorothy J., Ruth Bumgarner Prentice – along with their husbands Budge Prentice II & Harold Wirthman III – are also major players within our community contextually via their roles as directorships at various local organizations including Chamber Of Commerce Foundation Incorporated ExpelsordwellerRoadbuildersClub); trusteeships at various schools affiliated with Our Lady Of Grace Parish School District No 1; co-directorship(co-authority)withMy Sister City Chicago Heights Plaza Shopping mall ; directorial position(director emeritus)atOur LadyOfGraceChurch ; active participantinAmericanRepublicanParty ) . From these positions they manage day-to-day operations while continuing their mother's legacy both politically AND financially.. Excelsior Springs, Missouri is a town in Posey County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,606 at the 2010 census. The old name of the town was "New Madrid". On April 20, 1821, a party of fur traders from Montreal and Quebec arrived in what is now Excelsior Springs. They founded the first permanent settlement in this area and named it after their hometown of New Madrid in Kentucky. The first post office was established at Excelsior on November 17, 1825. In 1827, the town seat moved to nearby Washington City. In 1837-38 when Kansas became a state and Excelsior Springs became part of that state it lost its status as a town because Kansas law did not allow towns to be created within their borders without prior township vote approval. However, because Excelsior Springs still owed taxes to Posey County until 2018 there remains some ambiguity over its municipal status today. The only structure remaining from the early days of Excelsior Springs is an old log cabin which stands today on property near Center Street and Academy Avenue. It was built by John Sibley around 1830 as his home while he was employed by Colonel James Kiefer as surveyor for Posey County; Kiefer also owned large tracts of land through his holdings with similar buildings designed by Sibley located throughout present day Posey County and adjoining counties including Preble and Barton Counties The original residents were primarily fur traders who came here seeking new markets for their goods; however since Trails Of Tears began operations affecting most Native American tribes east of the Mississippi River many people have come through here since then looking for opportunities such as farming or ranching along US Highway 66/ Interstate 35W (I-35W being later truncated to become I-55), making this one of the most heavily traveled areas in western Missouri Many other businesses have sprung up during recent years such as a computer store (xcelsysolutions), hair salon (style queen salons), print shop (excelpressions) etc., giving this once small community much needed breathing room despite its heavy dependence on I- 55 / US 66 traffic corridor
