Fulton was founded in 1836 by James B. Fulton and his wife, Nancy. The city was named for General James B. Fulton, who had led the Missouri Compromise expedition that ended the Bleeding Kansas War. In 1838, the town of Fulton was incorporated as a town with a population of around 300 people. The first gun barrel factory in Fulton was built in 1840 by Elijah Dutton and his brother-in-law, Samuel Morse. The factory produced rifles and pistols for use by settlers in central Missouri. The first gunsported barrel to be made in Fulton were barrels designed by George Stephenson for the Illinois Sanitary Railroad. In 1847, John Sutter arrived in Fulton and began construction on the Sacramento River Road, which would later become Interstate 70. Sutter's company supplied goods to wagon trains traveling between California andeast Nebraska Territory (now Iowa). After Sutter died in 1850, his company passed down its munitions supply business to his son, David Sutter Jr., who continued operations until 1861 when he sold it to Benjamin Fenton of Hannibal, MO. In 1865, Jens Jacobsen established Jacobs & Sons Gun Barrels at 615 Washington Street in downtown Fulton. This became one of the largest gun manufacturers in America during the late 19th century due to its production of shotguns and rifle barrels for military purposes as well as other firearm products such as ammunition sales

Fulton is a small town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area. Fulton was founded by George Washington Fulton on a farmstead near present-day Fulton Heights in 1825. The community grew rapidly when the railroad arrived in 1847 and became an important industrial center for manufacturing goods such as cotton and shoes. The town's fortunes changed with the arrival of industry away from Fulton and its location within easy access to Interstate 55; however, after decades of decline, Fulton has regained some level of economic stability and local pride since the early 21st century. Today, Fulton features a variety of shopping centers including one located close to Interstate 55 which provides easy access to both local businesses and larger chains such as Walmart and Target. In addition to its traditional industries (manufacturing, agriculture), Fulton also enjoys resurgent tourism providing interesting insights into German culture that are difficult to find in other areas of Missouri City or Kansas City. The history behind what is now known as Fulton can be traced back over two hundred years ago when George Washington Fulton purchased land northeast of present-day downtown Saint Louis for his new home colony - what would eventually become known as "Fulton Heights". After months long construction work he finally moved into his new home on November 15th 1825 just days before Thanksgiving Day! For many years this lovely spot served as the nucleus around which much activity took place in rural Livingston County because it was only about 3 miles from downtown Saint Louis! The first permanent settler in what would later become known as Fulton was John White who arrived on October 25th 1827 from Covington Township (now Jefferson County). White furrowed through farmland north of present day downtown SaintLouis until he reached a bend in the river where he found land totaling 4 acres (1 km²). He offered shares of his property to others who followed suit until there were 10 settlers living here at various times during its early days - most notably Elijah Woods who arrived December 17th 1830 with his family consisting of 5 children age 24 months (+ 2 weeks old)and 6 year old wife Margaret who Lived with her Parents until Father's death on April 3rd 1840... From this initial group we get our name - "Fulton" because all ten original settlers banded together and voted unanimously to rename their settlement after their native state James Fenton had Ivedy map drawn up showing only nine houses named Livingston but no streets leading thereto so they petitioned Congress for assistance & obtained thru Gov't Surveyor Thomas Paine an extra lot east side current plaza & laid out Streets within Limits hereinbelow called "Lafayette", Presidents House being lately built upon same Lot & named after General William Humes whom Soevereign Bill granted 7500 Acres Dec'd Oct' '65 (& formerly belonging To Mrs Howell) Lafayette Street today stands largely due NE thereof steadying ground taken from said Lots been improved by Mr Byrne—allowing 160 foot Width between Highways hereon main arteries still remaining unimproved having been improved by Streets recently madePIERREVILLE HEIGHTS circa 1840 bourbon distillery started operationsAPIERREVILLE HEIGHTS circa 1850 post office opened In order for farmers throughout Livingston County to sell their produce directly to consumers thus reducing transportation costs, Congressman Thomas Paine recommended that Congress legislate a system where products could be bought and sold within fifty miles OF each large city or town across America! On February 14th 1789 President James K boys signed legislation awarding GeneralWilliam Humes 7500 acres south west of Lafayette Avenue (the site now occupied by Arch Street) along modern day Interstate 55 – making it possible for farmers all across America(!!!)to sell their produce directly unto consumers–a monumental event that forever changed American agriculture! This change not only helped reduce transportation costs but it also allowed Americans to purchase items like clothes, food etc., that they wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise! As if this weren’t enough®, subsequent laws were passed authorizing more development including building schools/libraries/city halls etc., giving impetus towards continued growth… Today we enjoy buildings such as The Masonic Temple Complex located on Brush Road adjacent Interstate 64 opposite MO 65….within minutes you are surrounded by History!!!Sears Roebuck Plaza ~ presently home TO Sears Holdings Incorporated~ grand opening date: July 16th 1977
