Gladstone rifle stocks history began in 1857 when a group of men from Gladstone, Missouri, purchased a rifles and shotguns from an Indian trader. The first rifles and shotguns were made by the Gladstone Rifle Works. In 1861, the company became known as the Arms and Ammunition Company. In 1865, it was renamed the Gladstone Rifle Works again. In 1889, the company was merged with Armour & Ammunition Company to form Armour & Company. The company produced rifles until 1906 when it ceased operations.
Gladstone, Missouri is located in the Ozarks region of west-central Missouri. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Gladstone is a small town of about 150 people and it has no incorporated municipality. It is part of the Jackson County, Missouri Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Gladstone was James Hickey who arrived in 1820. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street and petitioned for incorporation in 1825. The first municipal election was held on November 3, 1830 and James Hickey was elected mayor with 52% of the vote. In 1838, John Wetherbee purchased land east of Main Street from James Hickey for $1,000. He started to build a sawmill which he named "Gladstone." The first crop grown on the land was corn which yielded 9 bushels per acre at an average price of $0.50 per bushel during its early years. In 1840 Wetherbee sold his interest in the mill to Phebe Goodloe who continued to operate it until her death in 1865; then it passed through several families before being acquired by George Atherton in 1888 who made it his business farmstead name which still stands today as Atherton's Mill & Feedstore Inc.. From 1888 until 1954 when Jackson County became one state, Gladstone had its own court system with twelve judges assigned to hear civil and criminal cases arising out of or connected with that county; however this system collapsed because there were never any requests for service from within that county after annexation by neighboring counties (Jackson County specifically). A new court system was organized effective January 1st 1954 under jurisdiction of the Kansas Court System - all felony cases hereafter transferred to that court system will be tried by jury unless otherwise provided by law (this provision does not apply to misdemeanor cases). In 1978 Gladstone incorporated as an unincorporated community under the name "Gadgettstown" due to lack of interest among residents in maintaining their separate government despite having similar boundaries including downtown square mile (townsquare block) size without any public services available within that square mile area other than cemetery access (the only business within that square mile area is Atherton's Mill & Feedstore Inc.). However membership dues are still required for attendance at meeting calls/meetings held inside or outside Gadgettstown
