In 1868, the city of Grandview was founded in present-day Missouri. It was named for George Washington Grandison, who donated land to the town. Grandview is a town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The first settlers in Grandview were led by John Gadsden and his son, James Gadsden. On July 8, 1835, General Samuel Journette purchased land south of present-day Grandview from James Gadsden for $1,000 cash. The men who founded the village of Grandview did so to establish an agricultural community which would provide food for their troops during the Mexican–American War and other conflicts that occurred in Missouri during that time period. On November 3rd of that year, Governor Claiborne Fox appointed George Washington as the first postmaster and Wm Henson as treasurer for the new village of Grandview. George Washington served until 1851 when he resigned because he had married a woman outside of his military service (he was then only 21 years old). This event caused some excitement among the early settlers because it demonstrated how much easier it would be to get along with other people living within a few miles of them than it had been before when they had to travel long distances to find friends or relatives who could help them out with transactions such as mail order items or selling goods they produced themselves on their farms or businesses. In 1857 Colonel Nathaniel Lyon moved into what is now known as Park Row and built his home there which still stands today. He soon became well-known throughout Jackson County because of this house which he erected on one acre (0 hectares) lot near what is now called Park Row Drive in what is now known as Lyons Terrace after himself and two others donated that piece of land back in 1857. At about this time also another man by the name of Ebenezer Brown came over from Kentucky with his family and bought about three acres (10 hectares) north east corner parcel from Colonel Lyon for $5 per acre ($140 per hectare). This lot formed what are now known as Brown's Ridge where Ebenezer Browns farmstead still stands today on Elk Creek Road just west sideage road off I-435 just north side exit ramp from I-435 going eastbound towards St Francoisville Rd./Highway 507/Missouri State Route 663.(Browns Ridge Road current intersection with I-435 just south side exit ramp off I-435 going eastbound towards St Francoisville Rd./Highway 507/Missouri State Route 663.) It should be noted that Ebenezer Browns farmstead currently stands exactly at its original location while Highway 507 has changed several times since its founding including being rerouted around town shortly after Colonel Lyon's death in 1870 driving all but one block away from where it used to stand next to highway 509.) So if you drive down Brown's Ridge Road today you are actually driving right past where Ebenezer Browns farmstead once was! In fact if you go any further down hill on Brown's Ridge thereabouts you will reach what is now known as Lyons Terrace although most people believe that this place actually began developmentalmost immediately following Colonel Lyon's donation( Lyons Terrace current intersection with I-435 just south side exit ramp off I- 435 going eastbound towards St Francoisville Rd./Highway 507/Missouri State Route 663.) When later maps were created showing Lee & Robertson townships those roads were realigned making access up hill more difficult solyer however original site remains almost exactly located

Grandview, Missouri is a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 931 at the 2010 census. Grandview is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on the east side of the Missouri River and bordered by Huntingdon to the north and Illinois to the south. The town was founded in 1837 as a trading post by Captain Samuel Fenton and his family. The first post office was established in 1838. In 1860, Grandview became an incorporated town with a total population of 2,000. The name "Grandview" originated from its location on high ground overlooking the river valley and its properties formed an ideal agricultural community for settlers who wished to farm in proximity to nature. In 1898, two brothers named George Washington and George Haggerty purchased land adjoining Grandview for $8000 dollars which they donated to Grandview Village Development Corporation (GVDC). GVDC created public housing units called Park Place Apartments-Grand View which were completed in 1907-08. In 1915 GVDC disbanded due to financial difficulties; however, it reorganized as a separate corporation known as Community Service Authority (CSA) with headquarters at 515 West Main Street in downtown GrandVIEW until its dissolution in 1970 when it merged into City Services Administration (CSA) within Springfield Municipal Services District #2 effective January 1st 1971 According to the 2000 census, there are now over 10 thousand residents living within boundaries of present-day Grandview Village including: 6051 East Main Street; 5151 West Main Street; 5015 North Avenue; 5020 South Avenue; 5019 North 25th Street; 601 North Third Street; 601 South Third Street From Kiernan L Hogan's History ofSpringfield Township Volumes I & II pg 248ff "On November 3rd 1870 Reverend Samuel Morse received word that he had been appointed pastor at Springfields new church being built just west of where he lived on Great Plains Road." A Congregational minister from Kingston upon Hull England named John Tipton arrived December 8th 1870 along with his wife Mary Ann Morse who stayed with him while he preached services until March 4th 1871 when they moved back home again after taking their son Jesse Wright under their wing during this time Reverend Morse continued preaching services right up until May 6th 1871 when he accompanied his friend Charles Biddle on his survey trip across Phillips Creek near present day Independence Hill where Charles Borromeo settled some twenty miles upstream from what would become Springfield proper
