However, during this time as well as throughout much of American History until about 1970s there was virtually no industry or commerce located within half mile radius of downtown Springfield so most residents relied heavily upon agricultural production which sustained them through tough times such as during depressions and natural disasters like floods etc.. In spite of these challenges however, many residents continue to make their mark on local history by serving on various local boards or committees which contributes significantly to our unique community spirit today! Moberly is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,558 at the 2010 census. It traces its roots back to 1835 when General James K. Polk and his forces burned Moberly to the ground after finding tobacco crops there. Moberly is located on of the original Calumet River Indian Reservation. The first white settlers in Moberly arrived in 1835 from Illinois via canoe and foot. They named their new community "Moberly" after General James K. Polk's birthplace in Florida where he grew up and died young while serving as an general during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). A post office called "Moberly" was established in 1840, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907.
