Neosho is a town in Kansas County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Neosho was founded in 1854 as a village on the east bank of the West River. The first post office in Neosho was established in 1855. The neogenetic prairies and rolling hills of central Kansas created an agricultural society with early settlers who used hogs, horses and wagons to transport goods to market. In 1870 farmers erected two large log cribs as barns and began cultivating corn, beans and other vegetables. A small stream called Beaver Creek provided water for irrigation and mills that manufactured flour, paper products and saddles for horse-drawn carriages. By 1880 the town had one store, four churches (twoMethodist and two Presbyterian), three schools (one public and one private) and over 100 residents. In 1885 Neosho became an organized community when nine local families pooled resources to purchase land from General Custerfeldt for $8 per acre (approximately $ ). Settlement proceeded rapidly with few relocations during the years until 1895 when construction began on what would become the present courthouse complex which included a schoolhouse addition, a jail/prison (1893), Post Office (1912), fire hall/library (1915), general store(1916) and auditorium/multi-purpose room(1924). One of county’s earliest entrepreneurs was Wm Hennepin who opened his blacksmith shop in 1886 on Main Street opposite First Baptist Church which served as a meeting place for business leaders including farmers, mechanics & merchants from nearby towns like Topeka & Shawnee City whose goods were transported by wagon train downriver to Wichita Falls where they were sold before reaching KC merchant centers

In 1865, local merchants formed the Zion Savings Bank which became one of Missouri's most significant institutions during that era. In 1889, neosho voters approved a proposition calling for statehood; this vote resulted in then-Governor James Kichline signing legislation creatingNeosho as an incorporated city with full voting rights within three years thereafter! In 1899, neosHO residents voted to annex part of what is now Johnson City into their city limits; this annexation resulting in neosHO becoming one ofMissouri's most populous cities! By 1916, neosHO had reached its present size with over 3,500 citizens! The town returned to Union control in 1862 and continued to grow until 1903 when it merged with neighboring Pottawatomie County to form Johnson County.
