O'Fallon, Missouri is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 24,906 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth-largest city in St. Louis County and the county seat of St. Charles County. O'Fallon is part of the Saint Louis metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become O'Fallon was Captain James Kapp from Belleville Township on March 3, 1827; he named his land for General John Custer who had died in 1876 during the Dakota War of 1862. Kapp and his family laid out a village on their farmstead known as "Kapp's Landing". The village prospered until around 1830 when an epidemic of smallpox destroyed much of central Illinois and most of eastern Missouri which caused severe poverty among settlers in this region; many fled to what would become O’Fallon specifically because they could not afford to die from smallpox. In 1835 David Wofford bought land east of present day Uptown Saint Petersburgh and founded what would become Woffordville on May 6th (the date remains unconfirmed). O'Fallon, Missouri is a city in Clinton County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clinton County. The city was founded in 1839 by General James Wilkinson and was named for Colonel Timothy O'Farrell of the 1st Missouri Infantry Regiment. The first post office opened in 1841. O'Farrell's store became one of the largest in town and still stands today. In 1840, Wilkinson purchased land south of town from John Ladd for $5 per acre and built the first school house there. The original courthouse was built on this property in 1845-1846; it burned down in 1862. In 1870, a group of Methodist ministers met to find a new location for their church after meeting at an inn near Springfield, Illinois. They decided on O'Fallon as their new center because it had good railroads available and its location made it easy to market their services. In 1881–1882, they built additions to the original church including a main sanctuary with a bell tower and two side altars. That same year saw the founding of what is now known as O’Farrell Park to honor Colonel Timothy O’Farrell's memory and his contributions to town development. On November 3rd, 1895 local voters approved incorporation into Clinton County through an act entitled "An Act To Incorporate the Town Of O'Fallon". The City of O’Fallon was officially established on December 12th, 1895 by ordinance from then-Mayor Dolphus Bowers (D) & Commissioners Gentry & Tomlinson (C). The early history of downtownO’Fallon reflects many influences which came together over time: pioneers who arrived during Kansas War times such as Captain Haggerty(who fought with General Cheyenne), his family who moved eastward when that territory became part of Oklahoma Territory; settlers coming back east during Reconstruction Era such as Judge McNaught(the judge who presided over Dred Scott v US); traders like Aiken who operated outposts along I-70; developers like George Nicholson(founder/director/ownerof Nicholson Bros.(now Kincaid)); builders such as JH Bailey who designed much later popular buildings like Stroud Elementary School across from downtownO’ Fallon while others such as Samuel Parsons developed small businesses hereabouts including Darius Sikes Hardware Store which still stands today; finally people from Jackson County moving into this area during late 19th century due to economic opportunities created by railroad construction nearby Today most residents are descendants or immediate family members living within walking distance or using public transportation options like buses or trains to get herefrom surrounding communities
