O'Fallon, Missouri was founded in 1836 by Daniel Boone and his wife Judith. O'Fallon is a city in Ford County, Missouri, United States. The population was 30,569 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ford County. The community of O'Fallon was platted on December 12, 1836, and named for Colonel John A. O’Farrell (1796-1868), a captain in the Union Army who fought in the Mexican–American War and the American Civil War. The first settlers were farmers who established a sawmill on the Cahokia River near present day O’Fallon. In 1839, James Fenton built a small grist mill on the east side of town which became an important agricultural center for area residents. By 1840, there were five mills in this area; two wereowned by merchants and three by farmers themselves. By 1860, only one mill remained operational; it had been replaced by a new large factory called “The Great Northern Mills” which produced flour from cornmeal imported from Europe. In 1865–66 Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest raidd nearby Independence Mills where he captured over 1 million pounds of flour and Killed many people including several hundred women and children before being driven back with heavy losses to Union forces under General Ulysses S Grant northward across Kansas into Illinois Territory where he burned most of Independence Mills before withdrawing to Chattanooga Tennessee in October that year….O’Farrell donated land to build what would become Community College Park located adjacent to today's city limits/Old City Hall Building today). The community started as just seventy-eight homes with six churches serving an estimated 4500 residents in early 1870s when First National Bank opened up business next door creating jobs for locals…..Today there are more than thirteen thousand residents within city limits making it one of the largest cities west of St Louis MO…The economy has grown significantly since becoming part of I-70 traffic pattern……..Today "O" falls well short but never removes its sense that home is where you belong: right here on Main Street
