Raytown, Missouri is a small town located in Boone County, Missouri. The population was 3,811 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town site was surveyed and laid out by Fenton on May 26, 1871, and received its initial name of "Fenton Township" on September 12 of that year. On October 24, 1870, a fire destroyed most of what is now downtown Raytown; only a single store building remains standing today as the only reminder of that destructive event. A new downtown began growth soon after; this time around architect Ebenezer Howard designed the first brick building which still stands today within blocks of where he had originally planned to build his own brick business venture. It wasn't until 1907 that electric services arrived to Raytown; at that point almost all businesses closed up shop due to high electricity rates being offered at that time for rural areas like Raytown! In 1916 local resident James Hightower donated 10 acres (4 hectares) near modern-day Girard Avenue and Elm Street to be used as a center for agricultural production; this Agricultural Experiment Station continues to operate today as one of America's leading research institutions into agriculture! Since then much has changed both physically and culturally within our small community - it's no wonder why so many people from across North America have come here over the years!

In 1856, the Raytown post office was established. The town continued to grow rapidly until it reached its peak in the early 20th century. By 1907, Raytown had a population of over 1,000 people. However, during World War I, Raytown experienced significant damage due to artillery fire from the warring factions in Europe. As a result of this devastation, the population dropped below 1000 by 1920. However, since then, raytown has steadily grown back to its pre-war level with a current population of around 12500 people.
