Raytown is a town in Daviess County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Township local government. The first permanent settler in Raytown was John Hebert in 1839. The townsite was laid out and platted on November 3, 1841 by Jesse Jourdan. A post office called "Hebert" was established in 1842, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. A school located near the intersection of US Highway 36 and State Road B began operations on December 8, 1903. It became an all-day public school with elementary grades from kindergarten to eighth grade; second through fifth grades were consolidated into a single building known as "First Grade School". In 1925, it merged with neighboring Springdale to form the present day Raytown Schools system which continues to operate today as one entity. The primary economic activity of Raytown for many years has been agriculture although there are some small businesses that have sprung up over time such as a grocery store and convenience store along US 36 south of town limits as well as several churches and other businesses that service the community economically. The current Raytown Hall of Fame Museum is located inside the old First Grade School building off US 36 east of town limits which also served as their primary business center for many years until they moved away in the early 2000s when they built their current facility nearby on Old Kingsbury Road adjacent to Eldon Elementary School which serves much of Raytown's population now. The museum features original artifacts from throughout history related to agriculture including tools, equipment, vehicles and more dating back to before man had even discovered what he could do with his own hands!
