On July 3 of that year, Wagoner moved his government operations to what is now downtown Sedalia from Topeka after some residents there refused to take orders from him from atop a hill east of their town center. During World War II much activity took place in downtown Sedalia as manufacturing plants were built here by both American and Japanese firms who used local labor force while their plants were either closed or converted into military installations during wartime shortages elsewhere in the country. After war hostilities ended these plants closed down but many remain standing as mixed-use buildings with commercial uses nearby including two large banks which still operate today - First National Bank & Trust Company (FNB) and JPMorgan Chase & Co.. Downtown businesses have seen recent growth as visitors increasingly choose to stay close to shopping areas such as Interstate 70/70A north of downtown as well as Ballpark Village south of I-70/I-470 east of downtown which are experiencing rapid development due to being adjacent to several high end restaurants and hotels including Marriott Marquis Hotel & Spa and Hyatt Regency Tulsa!

In 1870-1871 a second railroad line was built through Sedalia and it became known as "The New Line". These lines combined made up what is now CSX Transportation's Illinois Central Railroad division which ran from Springfield to Joliet; this also included parts of today's Union Pacific Railroad division which ran from Topeka (Kansas) to Council Bluffs ( Iowa). In 1886-1887 two more schools were built: one for white students and one for black students. King's School opened on October 1st 1886 by Mary King with funds provided by her father Kingdon Howells III who lived nearsedby. After four years she closed because too many children were being killed by makeweights or other types of street fights that then erupted throughout America due to lack ofBribery Regulations back then! A new school building was erected just south Of Main Street where today Park Middle School stands! Sedalia was founded in 1836 by the pioneer David V. Pendleton and his brother-in-law, James C. Beckham. The town was named after Sedalia, Kentucky, where Pendleton had settled in 1825. The first post office in Sedalia opened in 1840. In 1863, the town became a county seat of Cherokee County. In 1870, Sedalia incorporated as a city with a population of 1,200. It grew rapidly to become one of the largest cities in Missouri. The city reached its peak population growth during World War II when it had a population of over 50,000 people. However, due to the war and subsequent economic depression, Sedalia's population declined during the postwar period.
