Ammo has a long and varied history in Sikeston, Mo. It began as a tiny community of farmers and hunters on the banks of the Missouri River, about 35 miles northwest of St. Louis. As early as 1815, people in this area were using muzzle-loading guns to shoot game. By 1830, the town had become an important center for ammunition production. In 1841, General James K. Polk founded Fort Reuben at Sikeston to protect his wagon trains traveling across the Missouri River during the 1840s fur trade season. The fort was abandoned in 1848 after American forces destroyed it during the Mexican-American War. In 1865, Sikeston became an important military post when Union troops moved into the area to prepare for their invasion of Missouri. The town's main industry until well into the 20th century was Ammunition production and sales from local stores and businesses such as Sears & Roebuck (1895), JBL (1917), Cabela's (1921), and Brownells (1925). After World War II, ammunition production shifted from small towns like Sikeston to larger metropolitan areas such as St Louis and Kansas City due to increasing military activity throughout North America.Today, ammo remains an important part of local life in Sikeston with many residents still working in its various industries

Sikeston in 1864. It first produced rifles but later became involved in shotgun production as well. In 1916, the armory closed its doors due to financial struggles. However, it reopened in 1922 and continued producing arms until circa 1945.
Sikeston, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks region of Missouri. It is located about 25 miles northeast of Springfield and 30 miles southwest of St. Joseph. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The town was founded by French settlers in 1836 and named for Jean-Baptiste Sikeston, a military officer who served in the French Revolutionary War and later became an American Patriot. The first school in Sikeston opened in 1837 and the first courthouse was built in 1840. In 1862, Confederate General John Sowell's army passed through Sikeston on their way to attack Springfield; it is said that Sowell paused to eat at the local restaurant before continuing his march. During World War II, Sikeston supported American forces which fought against Axis forces during Operation Overlord. On September 9, 1944, Japanese soldiers massacred more than 60 villagers inside the village hall after days of looting and burning; this event is known as the "Sikeston Massacre." After the war ended, many residents moved away from Sikeston due to difficulties with farm production and economic instability following reconstruction efforts across much of Missouri. In 1959, Sikeston had a population of 705 people; by 2000 it had shrunk to 505 people due to loss of jobs in surrounding communities and declining birthrates among older adults combined with rising costs associated with health care services available outside of townspeople' homes (e.g., Springfield). However, over time new businesses have arisen throughout town periphery such as arts & crafts stores along highways leading into town while other businesses have established themselves within walking distance or even down street from residences particularly those run by young families seeking affordable housing closer to job opportunities rather then big box retailers/gas stations located centrally within larger towns

Sikeston was founded in 1838 by Scots-Irish immigrants who named it for Sir John Sinclair, 5th Baronet of Largs (1784-1852). It became a national agricultural center and home to many large landholders and entrepreneurs during the early days of American agriculture. In 1925, Sikeston became one of the nine towns in Missouri designated as approveddivisions of the city of St. Louis by then Mayor George Crerar; this designation helped increase its manufacturing base and attract new businesses to its downtown area during the mid-20th century when St. Louis experienced an increased economy due to World War I production plants within its boundaries. In recent years Sikeston has lost some economic importance due to suburban development around it and competition from larger cities such as St Louis, but it remains an important community with strong ties to its Scottish heritage and culture
