Sikeston, MO is a town in Clarion County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,681 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The school district is named for Colonel John C. Smith and it has been home to the local paper mill since 1868. The Sikeston Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1892 and now serves as one of the five departments within the city of Sikeston Municipal Services District No. 2 which also includes parts of University Park and Hazelwood Township (northwest side of town). Gun magazines were first developed in this town during the late 1800s when gunsmiths began making muzzle loading pistols using rifled barrels from a variety of suppliers including Holland & Scott and America's Best Gunsmithing Company (now Brownells). By 1892, there were local shops that manufactured both revolvers and shotguns with magazine systems built into them such as "The Rifleman" by Julius Hoffman located on Main Street across from the old paper mill complex on Elkader Road. In addition to handguns, American Armory produced rifles (such as .45 ACP calibers) as well as shotgun cartridges like 12 gauge Remington 7mm Rem Mag., Winchester Model 1886 Winchester Magnum Rimfire Ammunition (.44 Special), 9 mm Luger rounds etc.; all while still manufacturing handguns inside their factory in Milwaukee Wisconsin under license from Colt’s parent company: International Harvester Co.. One important aspect that distinguished American Armory from other handgun producers at this time was their use of quality-controlled “billet” aluminum frames instead of traditional cast iron frames typical among most competitors; this allowed American Armory to avoid expensive tooling and manufacturing costs associated with traditional construction techniques used by many other firms producing handguns at this time such as Dutch Reeds & Sons Gun Manufacturing Company which had begun production on a large scale just prior toAmericanArmory’s entrance into the market.. rifle production continued outside Milwaukee Wisconsin even after Colt took over pistol production for international export starting around 1947 until finally ceasing operations altogether about 1966 due primarily to increased competition from imported foreign firearms.. However some rifles still remain unaccounted for including an experimental assault rifle chambered for 5x55mm NATO rounds known as "The Beast" which remains missing to this day although numerous leads have been followed resulting only in minor arrests or no prosecutions... Sikeston, Missouri is a small town located in the Ozarks Mountains of central Missouri. The population was 5,572 at the 2010 census. The community is named after General George Armstrong Custer, who fought in the American Civil War and died in 1892. Sikeston lies northwest of Springfield and south of St. Joseph. The first settler in Sikeston was an Englishman, John Robinson, who arrived in 1797. Other early settlers were two Germans, Wilhelm Schmidt and Johann Vetterhoffer, and one Irishman, Michael Collins. The first store was founded by Peter Janssen in 1802. In 1836 the United States bought land from the Ottawa Indians for $10 million dollars to build a railroad through central Missouri. When it opened about 1840, Sikeston became part of what was then called "the Territory of Kansas." In 1861 when that territory was renamed "Missouri," Sikeston became part of St Louis County; but it reverted to Indian ownership until 1907 when it passed back into Ulysses S Grant's ownership as part of the Oklahoma Purchase treaty ratified that year. In 1911 Cedar Rapids (Iowa) built its own branch line out from Chicago to reach Sikeston through Illinois; but this line closed down before reaching Sikeston. A new line built by the Union Pacific Railroad reached Sikeston in 1916-17; but this line too closed down before reaching village proper. During World War II there were numerous military installations located within or near Sikhston including: Air Force Station installation No 1 (now known as East Market Village), Army Post Office installation No 7 (now known as Kossuth), Navy Yard installation No 11 (now known as Naval Shipyard at Jefferson City), Aircraft Factory/Aerospace Missile Plant No 3B (later becoming Raytheon Missile Plant), Green Beret Barracks/Airborne Ranger Detachment Headquarters Building/Base Camp Area etc., all under control of Seventh Army Corps HQ area commanded by General Eisenhower during European Theater campaign against Nazi Germany from May 1944 until December 1945 inclusive). The history of Sikeston began with settlers from Illinois migrating to Randolph County in search of land to farm during the early 1800s. They were followed by other settlers during this time period who developed a variety of businesses including blacksmithing, wagon manufacturing and lumber production until centralization of these industries during the late 19th century resulted in decline for these businesses over time. This declined trend continued until World War II when wartime demand led to resurgence of these industries as well as new opportunities for growth due to increased transportation accessibility across America which created more jobs than ever before while also providing social stability through welfare programs offered by both local governments as well as private companies such as Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union Local 226 (ACWU).
