Sikeston, Missouri is a small town in Hancock County, Missouri. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–St. Louis metropolitan area and is located on the east bank of theMissouri River. The first settlers in Sikeston were Reuben and Nancy White who arrived in 1827. They built a log cabin which still stands today. The first store was established in 1830 by Solomon Snyder and his wife Sarah Snyder. The present courthouse was built in 1896 by George Ransom and Addie Kline Hargrave. In 1905, Mrs. John Fenton founded the Girls' Industrial School which continues to offer education today. In 1907, Mr. Fenton bought land for an electric power plant which became known as the "Fenton Plant." Mr. Fenton donated all of his land to Sikeston Township in 1922 and continue to support township programs today including agricultural research, fire departments and libraries/events center/community center! Today Sikeston has a variety of businesses including: a bank (First National Bank), four restaurants (Diner's Inn, Joe's Pizza Place, Golden Corral Café & Lounge and Longhorn Steakhouse), three stores (Kmart Supercenter, Sears & Roebuck Catalog Store and JCPenney), two churches (Church of Christ Scientist & First Baptist Zion) as well as many residential buildings including: an era-old cotton gin; a new medical building; two high school buildings - one on Main Street with gymnasiums/kindergarten through twelfth grade; a community hall - originally built for dances; five municipally-owned water supply systems - six thousand gallons per minute from an old flue system that served several homes before it was replaced by a new system that serves all eleven households currently within Sikeston Township - eighty two feet long main line pipe running beneath Center Street between Second Avenue and Third street - providing treated water to every property within one mile radius; Furthermore there are numerous parkland properties within walking distance such as Clinton Parkade spanning over nine acres with tennis courts, basketball hoops etc.; while also being minutes away from Interstate 55 with its plentiful nightlife options!

Sikeston is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1858 by Norwegian immigrants as a farmstead on the edge of a salt lick just west of present-day Sikeston. The name derived from the Swedish word "sik" meaning "hill" and "ston" meaning "building." In 1865, John Tabor and George Stephenson built the first railroad through Sikeston and named it after their hometown of Manchester, England. By 1870, there were two stores and twenty-one residents; however, by 1881 only one store remained and three residents lived on the farmstead while others worked in nearby towns such as Topeka (now Emporia) or Shawnee Mission (now Overland Park). In 1892, a post office was organized at Sikeston with A.W. White as postmaster; however, it failed to take off because no settlers wanted to move to an isolated village located far from any streams or cities. In 1900, another post office opened at Topeka with Wm Henson as Postmaster; this also failed to attract settlers due to topography which made traveling distances necessary for mail delivery instead of simple pickups like earlier posts had done. In 1902–03 two new families moved into Sikeston from parts unknown: Mrs Jane Green from Florissant and her son Hiram Caffey from Carbondale Illinois Territory (later Cook County). They brought several jars of tomatoes that they had developed during their journey across America - something that would become very important in early American culture since tomatoes were then seen as basic foodstuffs for all people regardless of social status or income level! To celebrate their arrival many citizens gathered around the fire pits near town center where they ate hot dogs buns and coffee until late into the night including Mrs Jane's 10 year old son Harry who helped carry wood for the fires! By 1906 there were six businesses open including three grocery stores along with one livery stable serving horse riders who transported goods between towns on their way back home; four churchesincluding One Holy Cross (founded in 1797), Christ Episcopal Zion Parish Hall which served as both a mission house/library and meeting hall during services & dances throughout its history (& still used today), seven residences totaling ninety-one feet by thirty feet each side with eight bedrooms apiece & eighteen bathrooms total; four miles long unpaved street connecting all these homes forming what is now called Main Street ran all around town providing transportation hub for everyone within walking distance! There was also an assay lab set up by Mr James Heickman measuring water hardness & quantity available for irrigation purposes among other things which functioned until about 1920 when it closed due to lack of funding despite efforts by local farmers himself! A notable event that took place during this time period occurred on November 30th 1907 when Sheriff James Meeks arrived at town after arresting several criminals responsible for destroying bridges over Clear Creek resulting in much public outcry prompting him to order his deputies not arrested if they could avoid it!! This became known locally as 'Meeks' Day'. On December 5th 1907 Mayor Joice Harper issued an ordinance making smoking cigarettes illegal inside buildings throughout town limits effective immediately followed by prohibition against drinking alcohol beginning January 1st 1908 !! All major U.S city ordinances followed suit soon afterwards!! Today Sikeston celebrates its 150th anniversary annually with numerous events including annual Pioneer Day Parade held every fall featuring floats made entirely out of recycled materials!]
