The Sikeston, Missouri town of Sikeston was founded in 1837. It was named for George Washington Sikeston, a white farmer who donated the land on which the town was built. The town had its first post office in 1839. In 1860, it became the capital of the new Missouri Territory. In 1865, it became an independent city and continued to be governed by a mayor and a council. In 1870, it merged with neighboring towns to form the city of Springfield.
Sikeston, Missouri is a small town located in the Ozarks of central Missouri. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. Sikeston is part of the Jackson County seat. The name "Sikeston" originates from the Shawnee word sipa-kesh (meaning "place where buffalo grazed"). The first settler in this area was John Winchester, who built a cabin in 1805 on the banks of the White River. In 1819, James K. Polk appointed William Davenport as surveyor for Jackson County and his report included sketches of areas to be explored including what is now Sikeston. At that time there were no roads or schools in this area so most people traveled by boat to attend school within miles of their homes. After Davenport's death in 1826, his son Daniel took over as surveyor and continued to explore and map this area until he died in 1881. In May 1898, when an act was passed authorizingMissouri statehood, Sikeston became one of six townships within Jackson County chosen to become part of that newly created county based on population size only; it did not have any voting rights until after statehood occurred on November 3rd, 1907. On July 8th 1870 local citizens raised enough money through a sales tax referendum to build a schoolhouse and barn near the present day intersection of Ulysses Road and Old Hwy 209/Old US 64 which would serve as both a school house and stable for local farmers during its early years while also providing transportation for students coming from nearby farms into town during those early days beforeauto travel became common throughout most parts of America! This structure still stands today next door to our high school building! A post office was established at Sikeston on October 14th 1865 under the name "Hicksville". It operated until 1963 when it changed its name to "Sikeston Post Office". The current post office building was completed in 1978 adjacent to our high school campus! Numerous businesses opened up around here during those early days such as: A good grocery store called Jansen's which still exists today across from our high school; two cotton ginners named Higgins & Rogers who still operate out front on Ulysses road; three blacksmiths - Barton & Browning whose business remains open down below Highway 64 just past milepost 9; two harness shops - Roper & Smith whose place can be seen behind Big Joe's Drug Store off Old US 64 about midway through town; one gristmill - Clark Bros./Milburn who ran things from their mill right up until it closed down around 1990 – all these businesses closed because transportation costs got too expensive!! And then we had several drive-in restaurants starting up like Texaco along Old Hwy 64 north side just past milepost 10½!!! Today we have just one restaurant left operating out back on Green Street west side……….. blessedly known as Just One Pizza!!!
Multi tools are tools that can be used in multiple ways. Multi tools have been around for centuries and there are different types of multitools available on the market today. There are a variety of factors that contribute to the popularity of multitools, including their usefulness, durability, and ease of use. Some popular multitools include: a knife, a screwdriver, a hammer, and an editor/painter’s tool. Some people believe that multi-tool usage is becoming more popular as people become more versatile with their devices. The most common reason why people use multi-tools is because they need to do multiple tasks at once or they want to be able to take on multiple tasks without having to stop and think about it. Multi-tool users often find these tools easier and faster than traditional hand-held devices. Additionally, multi tools allow users to specialize in certain tasks which makes them more efficient overall when performing everyday activities such as gardening orcrafting projects. Multi-tool usage has also spread out into other industries such as construction and forestry where workers need specific tools for specific tasks. This is likely because many businesses now offer warranties on their products which covers any damages caused by using the product incorrectly or not being used frequently enough. Additionally, many consumers now prefer larger toolboxes over individualized tool sets since this allows them to get more uses out of their devices without having too many pieces scattered all over the house/. Overall, multi tools are becoming increasingly popular due to their versatility and easy careability.
