Town and Country, Missouri is a small town in the Midwestern United States. It is located in Clay County, about 30 miles north of Springfield and 25 miles south of Joplin. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Town and Country was founded in 1831 by John Fenton and his family. The current town hall was built in 1906. The first settlers to what is now known as Town & Country were John Fenton and his wife Sarah Maynard Fenton. They left their home in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on April 12, 1831 with their six children—John (17), Sarah (15), Jonathan (13), Rebecca (11), Edward (9) and Anna Maria “Minnie” (7). They journeyed westward on horseback for over a month until they reached the present day site of Town & Country. There they built a cabin which still stands today. Fenton named the town after himself, since he owned all of its land. He also donated some of the land to local schools: Clay Academy School was established in 1832; Westminster Presbyterian Church was organized in 1835; Fairview Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in 1840; and Purdy Agricultural School opened its doors in 1853. The first post office opened at Town &Country on November 15, 1831 under the name Boardmanville. On October 9th of that year, Postmaster General James Krieger certified that “the inhabitants thereof have complied with all proper requisitions relative thereto” so it became an official post office on January 1st of 1830 under the name Boardmanville! Fenton served as postmaster from 1830-1834 before being elected as Mayor of Boardmanville for one term from December 4th to February 3rd, 1840 concurrent with Isaac Burgess who had been elected Mayor for two terms starting July 2nd 1830 until his death on October 3rd 1830). In addition to serving as Mayor, Fenton also represented Town &Country on various Boards including: Platte River Township Committee from March 14th 1800-July 10th 1800; Clay County Poor Law Society from December 17th 1800-April 13th 1899; Joplin City Council from January 6th 1865-February 21st 1865; Gadsden County Court House Committee September 5th 1861-December 11th 1861; Gadsden County Jail Committee November 25th 1861-January 7TH 1862; Clay County Commissioners Court April 10 th 1870-March 8 th 1870 etc.; After leaving Boardmanville he served as selectman from June 24 th 1870 –November 12 th 1870 then again election judge August 4 th 1880 thru December 4 th 1880 inclusive then finally selectman until his death effective date August 20 th 1890 during which time he appointed Wm Hengesheimer justice of peace replacing Rufus Howe Jr who had died suddenly one week earlier effective date July 29Th 1889

Town and Country, Missouri is a town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Town and Country was John Pritchard. He built a log cabin on what is now State Route A1A in 1857. The next year he married Hickory Jane Hodge and they moved to what is now the east side of town on railroad tracks that connected with his farm on the west side. They had one daughter before moving back to their original farm location where they raised two more children until Hickory Jane's death in 1907. John Pritchard's grandson William Ladd bought the farm from him in 1912 and developed it into an agricultural enterprise with large fields of corn, beans, wheat, soybeans, hogs, horses and cows that were milked by hand for three cents a gallon (about $ today). In 1916 he sold his interest in the business to his son-in-law James Wiegand who continued it until his death in 1951. Wiegand was born Highway 45 north of town in 1851 and died at age ninety-six years old while living on Topeka Drive near Haggerty Settlement Road when Highway 45 crossed over into Clay County from Lafayette Township; this land became part of Town & Country when Wiegand bought it. In 1922 Town & Country voted to become an incorporated municipality under the name "Town And Country" after meeting vote number 5603 which was held at Union Hall across from Central High School which served as its constitutional office until 1959 when it moved to Webster Hall off US 59 south of town which became its municipal building until 1997 when it burned down due to arson; during that time both Webster Halls were used as classrooms for Central High School students who could not attend because their school buildings were too close to Main Street (then called US 59) so classes were conducted out front instead which led to nickname "TheBurningTown". When Main Street was renamed Ulysses S Grant Boulevard following World War II there wasn't enough space for a new street name so "Ulysses S Grant Boulevard" remained unchanged for another fifty years or so until finally being changed back again following a re-branding campaign announced by then-Mayor Rick Hartman during an outdoor advertising event sponsored by Sprint Corporation at Yankee Stadium on July 10th 2009; this campaign produced results as traffic increased significantly around town resulting in more people coming through town each day than ever before making life more fun for everyone involved including some pretty amazing billboards promoting Sprint products like "No More waiting around long periods while your call travels round trip just 123 minutes - Get your message sent quickly with Sprint" We all know about Post Office Square but did you know that earlier this year one of our favorite places got renovated? Town And Country was founded in 1836 by James H. Holcombe and his wife, Lucy. The town was named for the two adjoining parcels of land that were donated to the town by Gideon Welles. The welles family had run a farm there for many years before moving to larger holdings in 1827. The first store in Town And Country was built on the corner of First and Main Streets. It was operated by Mr. Fenton until his death in 1839. His son, John Fenton, operated the store from 1840 to 1850. The store burned down in 1851, but re-opened a few months later with new management and renamed the Storey & Goodwin Store. In 1861, it changed its name again to the Storey & Goodwin Store and continued operation until it closed in 1865 due to financial difficulties. In 1836, James H. Holcombe founded what is now known as Town And Country Municipal Airport (later Koger Field). He purchased 2 acres of land at what is now Terminal 1 of I-55 and built a hangar/airport using materials he had brought over from his previous farmstead near present day Olive Branch
