Troy is a town in Cass County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,027 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The first settlers in Troy were Sauk and Potawatomi Indians who made their homes on the east side of the White River. In 1812, General Andrew Jackson's army moved through Cass County and encampment on the west bank of the White River was established; this was known as Fort Harrison. A trading post was built at what is now Troy in 1814 by Colonel John Chisholm and sold to Jesse James for $5,000. The town site was chosen because it had a deep water well which contributed to its early prosperity. In 1865, about seventy-five families from Uniontown (now Overland Park) left their homes and founded Troy along with several other towns in Cass County as a result of the Compromise of 1867 which ended Reconstruction in America. When Missouri became an all-white state after that year's census, most black residents abandoned their white neighbors for good in order to keep their own social fabric alive. African Americans continued to live in Troy until after World War II when they were finally integrated into local society and economy.. The town's name comes from General George Armstrong Custer who fought against Mexico during the Mexican–American War (1846-1847). When news spread that General Custer had been killed near Buena Vista Texas on July 6, 1876, his remains were found weeks later scattered throughout Indian Territory including parts of Illinois and Missouri where he had been born some years before his death at age 27 while expeditioning with his 7th Cavalry Regiment under Ulysses S Grant's command

Troy, Missouri is a small town located inlingua County, Missouri. The population was 3,521 at the 2010 census. Troy is the only municipality in Inlingua County and also the county seat. The village of Troy was incorporated as a separate town on February 18, 1907. On May 1, 1912, it merged with neighboring Independence to form the current municipality of Troy. The first settler in what would become Troy came from Scotland in 1836 and named John McLaren who platted land near present day Troy on August 17, 1836. He and his family removed to what is now Inlingua County and began homesteading on what became known as Farmington Hill Road. By 1840 there were 10 homes in the area and by 1845 there were 25 residences including two churches. Helden & McKay (1846-1912) built an opera house which served as a meeting hall for local farmers until 1911 when it became home to the high school football team before being sold to businessmen Wm H Fenton and Alfred L Young Jr.. It was used as their summer home until 1955 when it was donated to the City of Troy for use as its municipal building. On July 4th 1861 David Westphal erected a granite obelisk commemorating General Donelson's visit to Inlingua County that stands today just off Center Street in downtown Troy. That same year $1,500 was raised by citizens of Inlingua County for public works projects such as road repairs and new water systems within their community which included enlarging old Hellman's Store onto Main Street which later became known as Hickory Hollow Inn. In 1862 another granite monument honoring General Hindman's visit arrived from St Louis MO made possible through donations by Mrs Ayer Millington who also contributed 100% of costs associated with its erection along with gift shop windows on Third Street east of Masonic Hall which would serve as headquarters until 1913 while still continuing operation under different ownership including both businesses operated simultaneously before becoming one storefront operating under one roof from 1915-1963 known variously as Hickory Hollow Inn/Old Towne House/Masonic Hall Annex/Hickory Hollow Inn/Troy Municipal Building Annex before finally becoming History Now Museum adjacent to Township limits on October 1st 2013 after 15 years of occupancy
