The University City Rifle Club was founded in 1892. The first shooting at the club took place on February 6, 1893. In 1897, the club moved to its current location and began to offer rifle range instruction. In 1912, the club became a member of the Missouri Rifle Association and in 1924 it became an affiliate of the National Rifle Association. In 1934, the University City Rifle Club merged with two other clubs in town - The Pistol Club and The Shotgun Club - to become one organization known as The University City Rifle and Pistol Clubs. Between 1934-1965, there were a total of 24 president/presidential elections for members of The University City Rifle and Pistol Clubs. From 1965-1985 only one election occurred; this time it was for secretary/treasurer. From 1985-1998 there were three elections; these were for president/presidential officers (director), treasurer/treasurer, and secretary/treasurer. On October 1st 1998 through unanimous vote by all members of both organizations, Keith Flood became president/presidential officer for all three organizations collectively known as "The United Gunslings."
University City, Mo., is a city located in Central Missouri. The population was 32,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Callaway County. The university town has been around since 1881 and now includes areas of University City which were developed as housing for students and faculty during the early 20th century. In addition to its downtown area, University City features several neighborhoods: the Hillsborough-Belmont neighborhood on the east side of town, Middleton-Fenton on the west side, and Lakewood-Munster on the north side. The University of Missouri (MU) campus is located in University City.
