Warrensburg, MO is home to the oldest knife factory in the United States. The factory was founded by Samuel Morse in 1827 and produced knives, daggers, spears and other weapons until it closed its doors in 1957. Today, the factory remains a popular tourist destination for Knife enthusiasts of all levels of interest. The history of Warrensburg began with a small family farm that supported several generations of settlers.Over time, the farm became known for its excellent tomatoes and corn crops. In 1812, John Morse opened a grocery store on his property which later became known as the Morse & Richardson Store. In 1817, Samuel Morse married one of these pioneers, Margaret Richardson. The Richardsons were instrumental in helping to create what today is known as Warrensburg's Knife industry. In 1827, Samuel Morse began production at his old Factory on Main Street in Warrensburg. At this time, he was followed by his brother-in-law Edward Mather who also began producing knives at their new Factory location on Elm Street just north of town center. By 1830 both brothers had left their respective factories to become full-time entrepreneurs and production moved from downtown to an acreage located east of town on County Road E1 (now I-435). Production continued at this new location until around 1860 when it was decided that larger batches were no longer necessary due to increased competition from abroad. To preserve older production techniques and equipment some were leased out or sold off while others were kept intact and used sporadically during the next few decades before being mothballed again in the 1970s/1980s after becoming redundant again with advances in manufacturing technology etc etc etc.. A major upset occurred when two employees at the old Factory site decided they wanted to start their own company - Knives Unlimited! This decision caused mass layoffs across most industries due to requirements set by management which included using only injection molded parts instead of traditional forged steel parts! Needless to say this didn’t sit well with many workers who saw their hard work go up in smoke... but things would soon get better! Some people within Management eventually recognized that there may have been some over enthusiastic workers who could not handle life outside of work - something which had already become an issue back at HQ - so they hired someone specifically focus groups/experts from Marketing Strategies Incorporated who determined that there wasn't enough demand for traditional knives anymore among our current customers base - causing much rejoicing throughout Manufacturing sections ! It wasn't long before everyone started wearing gloves even inside Production areas now...lol
