In Webster Groves, Mo., there are many optical businesses that have been in operation for many years. Some of the oldest businesses in this area include the Optical Shop of Webster Groves, which was founded in 1892. The shop was a one-man operation and sold eyeglasses, spectacles, and other optical supplies. In 1951, the shop passed away and its inventory was donated to the Missouri Valley Foundation. The store then reopened as an optometrist office until it closed again in 1984. However, since then, several different stores have reopened in Webster Groves including one run by John Lutz who started the business in 1996. While some aspects have changed since then - including suburban sprawl across much central Missouri - many aspects remain unchanged: herein lies one significant reason why Webster Groves has been so successful: its core community remains committed to traditional values such as hard work, good citizenship, religious faith, public spiritedness and neighborliness that have helped make it one of America's most vibrant rural communities. Today, there are about 175 businesses operating inside the town limits with nearly all offering services such as repair/maintenance services or sales/marketing; many others offer unique products or services not found elsewhere on Main Street . By 1910, Webster Groves had passed down its ownership to the Webre family who continued To provide high-quality products at affordable prices until 1951 when they merged with Missouri-based JCPenney for what is now considered one of America's leading consumer durables retailers. The Webster Groves neighborhood in Missouri was founded by the family of James and Sarah Webster in 1837. The Webers were early settlers in the area and owned land around what is now the Webster Groves neighborhood. They named their home "Webster Grove" after their grandfather, James Webster. The original house still stands within the boundaries of the Webster Groves neighborhood.
