In 1902- 1904, Homebuilders' Loan Association built a three story frame building which served as the first courthouse in Heritage City. In 1909- 1910, when home builders started constructing more large homes in Heritage City they needed more space so they proposed that the city build a new courthouse on State Street between First Avenue and Ninth Street which would serve as their central business district. The citizens approved this proposal and began construction on what would eventually become the current courthouse in 1911- 1912 just east of where Homebuilders' Loan Association used to stand. The original courthouse was built out of white cedar logs which were taken from a tree near by on State Street west of First Avenue. The log courthouse was replaced by a brick structure in 1925 after many problems with its condition including fire damage which resulted in $1 million worth of damages being done to it during its tenure! In 1935- 1936 when Interstate 80 was constructed through Lincoln County it connected downtown Omaha with heritage city via routes I-80W & I-90W making Heritage City into one giant shopping center! This change not only caused businesses within downtown Omaha to move away but also all those businesses within heritage city itself because anyone who wanted to do business outside their own neighborhoods had to go through downtown Omaha! As a result of this development process Pioneer Hall lost its status as the tallest building within Heritage City while becoming simply another grocery store! As time passed more amenities such as libraries and parks opened up throughout Downtown Omaha so that what once been called "the little village" became something much greater; an exciting township community rich with history both old and new! Today even though there are still few residents living inside traditional neighborhoods like Main Street or Second Avenue there are plenty if visitors who come explore all that has made her into oneof North America's most unique communities!
