The first recorded use of a gun light was on November 25, 1892 when the Nevada State Police used them to guide bullets during a shooting competition. Gun lights were also used by the Carson City Municipal Airport from 1935-1962. In 1941, the United States Military began using certain firearm sights called “gun sights” in place of traditional target sights on rifles. The gunsights consisted of an aiming platform with two circles that could be moved relative to each other to adjust the magnification level of the rifle scope. These gunsights were mostly used on machineguns and artillery pieces. In 1961, gun lights were retired from military service and replaced by night vision devices for law enforcement officers in Carson City. In 1984, the Nevada Legislature passed Assembly Bill 1027 which allowed police officers within 1 mile of any school or public building to use firearms while making an arrest or providing security for that institution. This bill also authorized the sale of handguns to law enforcement officers without having to obtain a license from the Nevada Department of Public Safety. Since then, many different companies have developed and marketed gunlights throughout Nevada as well as around the world. Carson City, Nevada is a town in Clark County, Nevada. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clark County and home to the University of Nevada–Las Vegas (UNLV). Carson City was founded on January 29, 1864 as Fort Hill by Arapaho Chief Manuel Antonio Chavez. The first post office in Carson City was established on March 12, 1868. The name of the town originated from General James H. Kearny's comment that "the place called Carson City would be a very fine watering ground for wild mustangs if properly defended." In 1879, while still known as Fort Hill, the fort became home to the United States Geological Survey's Topographic Division during its survey work for what would become Las Vegas Valley. In 1911, construction began on what would become Oneonta Townsite including today's downtown area and most ofwhat is now Carson City Airport. Over time various businesses moved into Oneonta until it had a population of about 150 people in 1935 when World War II started and demand for labor soared due to new military deployments in Southern California and other parts of America. That same year saw also the first attempt by humans to build permanent structures within present-day Carson City limits with Dick Cheney's father-in-law John Fenton establishing an adobe ranch near his Young Wells Ranch north of town in what is now Midtown Carson City

In 1903, American Major John Moses Browning designed andproduced the first permanently mounted machine gun using a recoil-operated system, called an automatic rifle or Automatic Pistol Machine Gun (Ammunition). This weapon was employed by the US Army during World War I and World War II. Itfired gasoline cartridges that exploded on impact to create muzzle fire. A variant of this weapon was produced by Browning for use with pistols and rifles from 1911 until his death in 1936. When firearms became more widespread among civilians, they began to be marketed with pistol-like controls that made them easy to operate even for those without experience with firearms. In 1935, Walther patented his own design for a handgun control system called an assault rifle grip safety device which would become known as the Walther PPS series pistols. This device allowed people with little or no firearm experience to hold and operate handguns safely. Gun lights quickly became popular among civilians as they provided illumination during dark nights or when operating under difficult conditions such as tight quarters or high speeds

American miner John Doolittle came to Carson City in 1912 and opened what is now the Doolittle Store as an Earhart store on First Street near Main Street.
