Fernley is a small town in Clark County, Nevada, United States. The population was 2,584 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1877 by German-American pioneer George W. Fernley and his wife Clara. It celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2007. Fernley is located on the edge of the Mojave Desert 10 miles (16 km) east of Primm and 25 miles (40 km) south of Las Vegas. The surface elevation is 4,000 feet (1,200 m). When first settled by George W. Fernley and Clara in 1877, Fernley was located about northeast of today's Fernley on what is now known as "The Ranch". At that time it consisted of some scattered adobe buildings and a cattle ranch with six cows and 30 horses grazing on Mesa Verde National Park land to the east across from present day Interstate 15/Las Vegas Boulevard North. Today there are only a few remains of this early days including a couple OF original Adobe Walls still standing today! A nice place to walk would be around these walls since they provide excellent views back into the past! In 1879, George W. Fernley built a house on what is now known as Main Street which became home to both he and his wife until their death in 1913 when it passed through sale onto their son Harry who operated it until 1951 when it came into ownership again by Mr./ Mrs./ Drs., Melvin & Ernestine Kappenberger who continued to run it until 1984 when it passed through another sale onto current owner Don Gorman who has operated it ever since! This wonderful small town had an eventful history dating back to January 1st 1881 when three pioneers: George W. Fernley himself; his wife Clara; brother-in-law Julius Schulz arrived from California with 3 ox teams just west of Indian Wells Summit Pass Nevada Territory then territory now part of Arizona! They set up camp for 5 months near present day Kernville before continuing down the trail towards Fallon where they met General Joseph Joulianney who invited them over for dinner one night while he was stationed at Fort Bridger prior to his march downriver against Native American resistance led by Captured Chief Black Hawk which ended up resulting in 7 dead Americans along with many more wounded or captured warriors including General Joulianney himself!!! After dinner that night they walked all night back up canyon arriving safe & sound at Fallon next morning!! That's how we got our name: "FernLEY" from General Joseph Joulianney's reaction upon seeing them approach!!!!! From here on out things went exceedingly well as far as settlement goes thanks largely in part to courageous individuals such as George W Fernley himself - every individual that moved here played an important role having something valuable or special contributed especially if born here!!! In fact even today many people feel like this charming little community has provided them opportunities beyond their wildest dreams being so close yet so removed from any big city – let alone anything major league sports related!!!!!!!!! Nowadays you can enjoy all types of activities outdoors whether fishing, hunting or simply relaxing inside your own comfortable home enjoying fine cuisine etc…..just take care not get hurt walking outsidexxxxx
