Henderson, Nevada is a small town in Clark County, Nevada. The population was 2,209 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of the county and is bordered by Ely to the north and West Valley to the south. The first European settlers in Henderson were prospectors who arrived in 1859. They named their town after William H. Henderson, an early settler in Virginia City, Nevada. In 1867, a post office was established at Henderson with mail delivered by stagecoach. The community grew rapidly and by 1870 it had a school and two stores. By 1880 there were sixteen homes and ninety-six people living in Henderson. Manufacturing began to take off in Henderson during this time as businesses built factories such as Agassiz Glass & Metal Works and Western Union Telegraph Company Station (now known as Wells Fargo Bank). During World War I, Henderson contributed troops to fight in Europe along with other towns throughout Clark County. After hostilities ended, many residents returned home but some continued to live here until the late 1940s when they all moved out of state for work during World War II. In 1949, local citizens approved annexation of neighboring West Valley which then became part of Henderson proper; however, annexation did not occur until 1959 because of lack of voter support
